Re: Sarah Palin is a moron...but hot
thesteelhammer wrote:Third, my point in responding to Godfather and Ranger here is that they said she was a moron for a statement about the VP's role in our government. Turns our she was correct, so who are the morons? That's right, Godfather and Ranger, but that's not all - tack on Joe Biden, who also got it wrong- AND HE'S A LAWYER! AND A MEMBER OF THE SENATE!
What's really going on is two smooth talking lawyers have bamboozeled half a nation (reminds me of the first OJ trial).
Like I said, disagree with her policies - tell us why her being pro-life is wrong, and how we should all be pro-choice? Tell us how drilling in Alaska is wrong for America? Talk about the War.
BUT ENOUGH OF THE PERSONAL ATTACKS - especially when they aren't true.
She was WRONG about the role of the VP. The only significant duty of the VP is to break ties in the Senate. The VP IS NOT IN CHARGE OF THE SENATE. The Prez has the right to veto legislation; that doesn't put him "in charge of the US Senate." You're trying to rationalize away her boneheaded and uninformed statement with the explanations being pimped on Fox News and by Limbaugh. Again, you feel free to go around the country telling people that the VP runs the Senate.
She's also been wrong whenever she's been asked hard questions; like what the Bush doctrine is. I don't think she's stupid. She's a bright actress who's great at reading teleprompted one-liners. Friggin' Katie Couric, an Oprah-caliber interviewer, made her look like a moron. Why do you think she won't appear on the Sunday news shows (the hardest and most in depth political shows)? These aren't personal attacks, these are legitimate criticisms of someone who thinks she deserves to be on the national political scene.
In my personal opinion, the fact that she had no clue what the Bush doctrine is alone rules her out as being qualified for the job. I love the idea of citizen politicians coming out of nowhere to get involved in the process, but you have to have the intellectual curiosity to know what the hell you're going to be doing BEFORE you decide to run.

SHE WAS NOT WRONG. YOU ARE!
(and you refuse to admit it, even in the face of the actual rules of the senate)
She is not a Moron. YOU ARE!
(and you can't even keep your agrument straight - not stupid, yet a moron?)
As for Limbaugh and Foxnews, WHEN HAVE I SITED THOSE SOURCES?
NEVER!
I am siting NON-PARTISAN SOURCES.
These are my own thoughts and analysis.
Please refute them with some actual logic, research and thought of our own -IF YOU CAN.
Check out the senate rules and show me where I am wrong.
Again,
Here is the official U.S. Senate site run by the United States government.
http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/his ... sident.htm
Notice the Title
Vice President of the United States (President of the Senate)
and the sections on the VP's duties
Vice-Presidential Duties
The framers also devoted scant attention to the vice president's duties, providing only that he "shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be evenly divided" (Article I, section 3). In practice, the number of times vice presidents have exercised this right has varied greatly. John Adams holds the record at 29 votes, followed closely by John C. Calhoun with 28. Since the 1870s, however, no vice president has cast as many as 10 tie-breaking votes. While vice presidents have used their votes chiefly on legislative issues, they have also broken ties on the election of Senate officers, as well as on the appointment of committees in 1881 when the parties were evenly represented in the Senate.
The vice president's other constitutionally mandated duty was to receive from the states the tally of electoral ballots cast for president and vice president and to open the certificates "in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives," so that the total votes could be counted (Article II, section 1). Only a few happy vice presidents — John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Van Buren, and George Bush — had the pleasure of announcing their own election as president. Many more were chagrined to announce the choice of some rival for the office.
Several framers ultimately refused to sign the Constitution, in part because they viewed the vice president's legislative role as a violation of the separation of powers doctrine. Elbridge Gerry, who would later serve as vice president, declared that the framers "might as well put the President himself as head of the legislature." Others thought the office unnecessary but agreed with Connecticut delegate Roger Sherman that "if the vice-President were not to be President of the Senate, he would be without employment, and some member [of the Senate, acting as presiding officer] must be deprived of his vote."
Under the original code of Senate rules, the presiding officer exercised great power over the conduct of the body's proceedings. Rule XVI provided that "every question of order shall be decided by the President [of the Senate], without debate; but if there be a doubt in his mind, he may call for a sense of the Senate." Thus, contrary to later practice, the presiding officer was the sole judge of proper procedure and his rulings could not be turned aside by the full Senate without his assent.
The first two vice presidents, Adams and Jefferson, did much to shape the nature of the office, setting precedents that were followed by others. During most of the nineteenth century, the degree of influence and the role played within the Senate depended chiefly on the personality and inclinations of the individual involved. Some had great parliamentary skill and presided well, while others found the task boring, were incapable of maintaining order, or chose to spend most of their time away from Washington, leaving the duty to a president pro tempore. Some made an effort to preside fairly, while others used their position to promote the political agenda of the administration.
During the twentieth century, the role of the vice president has evolved into more of an executive branch position. Now, the vice president is usually seen as an integral part of a president's administration and presides over the Senate only on ceremonial occasions or when a tie-breaking vote may be needed. Yet, even though the nature of the job has changed, it is still greatly affected by the personality and skills of the individual incumbent.
Senate Rules can be found at http://rules.senate.gov/senaterules/
They make it very clear that the Presiding officer (who is the VP, except in his/her absence) runs the order of the room.
Rule IV addresses COMMENCEMENT OF DAILY SESSIONS and includes “the Presiding Officer, or a Senator designated by the Presiding Officer, leads the Senate from the dias in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States…â€
And
“During a session of the Senate when that body is in continuous session, the Presiding Officer shall temporarily suspend the business of the Senate at noon each day for the purpose of having the customary daily prayer by the Chaplain.â€
Rule VI addresses whether there is a Quarum. It includes these words “If, at any time during the daily sessions of the Senate, a question shall be raised by any Senator as to the presence of a quorum, the Presiding Officer shall forthwith direct the Secretary to call the roll and shall announce the result, and these proceedings shall be without debateâ€
Rule XIX addresses debate, and includes these words “When a Senator desires to speak, he shall rise and address the Presiding Officer, and shall not proceed until he is recognized, and the Presiding Officer shall recognize the Senator who shall first address him. No Senator shall interrupt another Senator in debate without his consent, and to obtain such consent he shall first address the Presiding Officer…â€
And
“If any Senator, in speaking or otherwise, in the opinion of the Presiding Officer transgress the rules of the Senate the Presiding Officer shall, either on his own motion or at the request of any other Senator, call him to order; and when a Senator shall be called to order he shall take his seat, and may not proceed without leave of the Senate, which, if granted, shall be upon motion that he be allowed to proceed in order, which motion shall be determined without debate. Any Senator directed by the Presiding Officer to take his seat, and any Senator requesting the Presiding Officer to require a Senator to take his seat, may appeal from the ruling of the Chair, which appeal shall be open to debate.â€
AND
“Whenever confusion arises in the Chamber or the galleries, or demonstrations of approval or disapproval are indulged in by the occupants of the galleries, it shall be the duty of the Chair to enforce order on his own initiative and without any point of order being made by a Senatorâ€
Rule XX regarding questions of order reads:
“1. A question of order may be raised at any stage of the proceedings, except when the Senate is voting or ascertaining the presence of a quorum, and, unless submitted to the Senate, shall be decided by the Presiding Officer without debate, subject to an appeal to the Senate. When an appeal is taken, any subsequent question of order which may arise before the decision of such appeal shall be decided by the Presiding Officer without debate; and every appeal therefrom shall be decided at once, and without debate; and any appeal may be laid on the table without prejudice to the pending proposition, and thereupon shall be held as affirming the decision of the Presiding Officer.
2. The Presiding Officer may submit any question of order for the decision of the Senate.â€
So, basicly the VP (unless he/she isn't there) starts the Senates day with the pledge, is in charge of taking the prayer break, directs the secretary to take roll and announces the result, decides who gets to talk by recognizing them, can make a senator "take his seat: and "enforces order". (plus the ballot duty discussed above)
THAT IS BEING IN CHARGE.

I'd explain the Bush doctrine thing to you, BUT WHAT'S THE POINT WHEN YOU WON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE HOW WRONG YOU ARE ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE V.P. EVEN WHEN READING THE RULES OF THE SENATE. (Where is your "intellectual curiosity"? Think for yourself, you hypocrite.)
For others who are actually open to the truth, check out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_Doctrine
The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush. The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to aggressively secure itself from countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups, which was used to justify the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan.[1]
Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that represented a potential or perceived threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate; a policy of encouraging democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism; and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.[2][3][4] Some of these policies were codified in a National Security Council text entitled the National Security Strategy of the United States published on September 20, 2002.[5]
So the "bush doctrine" question was nothing but a trap question, as I described before, because the phrase means multiple things.
As for TELEPROMPTERS.
You must be speaking about OBAMA. THAT ONE is the one who uses teleprompters at every campaign stop this past week.
Palin was introduced as the VP slection in Dayton and delivered a great speach - WITHOUT A TELEPROMPTER!
Even at the GOP convention, the teleprompter failed and she delivered her speech in what was widely regarded as phenominal delivery. (remember - she went off teleprompter with the Pitbull/lipstick line.)
Again,
SHE WAS NOT WRONG. YOU ARE!
She is not a Moron. YOU ARE!
Re: Sarah Palin is a moron...but hot
Of course she's a moron! That's why she's so hot.
Didn't you guys hear the VPILF get punked by those Montreal shock jocks....with the one pretending to be French President Sarkozy? "Sarkozy" telling her he could see Belgium from his front yard, that he'd love to go "' 'unting "with her, especially by 'elicopter, and that his wife was hot in bed? The damn thing lasted more than six minutes, and the moron couldn't figure out she was being made a fool of??
All men are dogs, and we are often like Brian, the dog on Family Guy. WE STUPID CHICKS. They wake up our manparts.
And all it takes is one minute listening to Hot Sarah being punked by a couple of shock jocks. If she's dumb enough to talk to a couple of Montreal radio guys without preconditions maybe we could talk our way into her vadge. God, how I dumb chicks, and having one running for VP shows why America is the greatest land on Earth?
Give it up, brother. She's an effin' moron. And you'd do her, too.

"[T]hey’re in charge of the U.S. Senate..."
Keep trying, the VP has ceremonial duties besides breaking ties. That's it. You simply have to believe Cheney's bogus claim that the VP is not a part of the Executive, Judicial, or Legislative to keep trying to push this point.
And, as for the Bush Doctrine anyone who really follows politics and doesn't have to Google for their counterarguments knows exactly what the Bush Doctrine is. And her response when asked?
(paraphrasing) "Bush's world view?" responding in an uncertain, questioning manner that made it crystal clear that she had no fucking clue what the answer was. And, her response to follow-ups only made that more clear. She never answered in any articulate manner.
As for Obama and teleprompters, all the candidates use them if you haven't noticed. You've also seen Obama in numerous interviews and 3 Presidential debates where the vast majority of the American people thought he won. That "broken teleprompter" story about Palin during her acceptance speech was bullshit. Made to convince Conservatives that she's able to articulate political thoughts on her own. And, like much of the BS pumped out to their base regardless of the truth it sticks

That's it? What kind of idiot are you? Can you read?
The Constitution says what the constitution says.
The Senate Rules say what the Senate Rules say.
Put down the Kool-aide.
GodfatherofSoul wrote:And, as for the Bush Doctrine anyone who really follows politics and doesn't have to Google for their counterarguments knows exactly what the Bush Doctrine is.
Maybe you should google it. Or go to the library and read a book, like "The Bush Tragedy" Jacob Weisberg. http://www.newsweek.com/id/96372
Then maybe you could realize that since at least January of this year, people have been acknowledging that there are, or have been several "bush doctrines."
Weisberg actually identified six Bush Doctrines: Bush Doctrine 1.0 was Unipolar Realism (3/7/99--9/10/01); Bush Doctrine 2.0 was With Us or Against Us (9/11/01--5/31/02); Bush Doctrine 3.0 was Preemption (6/1/02--11/5/03); Bush Doctrine 4.0 was Democracy in the Middle East (11/6/03--1/19/05); Bush Doctrine 5.0 was Freedom Everywhere (1/20/05-- 11/7/06); and Bush Doctrine 6.0 (11/8/06 to date) is the "absence of any functioning doctrine at all."
So, If anyone was asked about it, the questioner would need to explain which "bush doctrine" they were refering to.
GodfatherofSoul wrote:You've also seen Obama in numerous interviews and 3 Presidential debates where the vast majority of the American people thought he won.
What we saw was a smooth talking lawyer speak nothing but his talking points, and most Americans thought he lost the final debate, thus the tightening polls after it.
.GodfatherofSoul wrote:That "broken teleprompter" story about Palin during her acceptance speech was bullshit
Look who's googling now - hypocrite.
Did you read the very link you provided? (which is really nothing more than a claim by a liberal member of the media that he saw it working.)
Did Sarah Palin's TelePrompTer malfunction? A very little bit, but not much.
How much does it have to be off to screw up a speech, yet she delivered flawlessly.
I'm not saying she did it from memory. All you have to do is watch it, she switches to the printed copy in front of her.
GodfatherofSoul wrote:As for Obama and teleprompters, all the candidates use them if you haven't noticed.
So why are you bashing Palin for using one then? HYPOCRITE.

Palin is a moron. That is the end of the story and she is the main reason that McAnus is going to lose the election. Worst pick for a VP in history.
As far as the VPs duties and role...
The VP is called the president of the senate but has NO VOTE unless there is a tie. The only time the VP has any duty in the Senate is during ceremonial times and when a tie vote requires the VP to cast a vote. Otherwise the VP has NO VOTE and NO other power over congress.
The vice president's ONLY other constitutionally mandated duty is to receive from the states the tally of electoral ballots cast for president and vice president and to open the certificates.
YES, Palin is a moron.

Quebec comedy duo talks porn and politics with oblivious Sarah Palin

MONTREAL - In an over-the-top accent, one half of a notorious Quebec comedy duo claims to be the president of France as he describes sex with his famous wife, the joy of killing animals and Hustler magazine's latest Sarah Palin porno spoof.
At the other end of the line? An oblivious Sarah Palin.
The Masked Avengers, a radio pairing notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state, notched its latest victory Saturday when it released a recording of a six-minute call with Palin, who thought she was talking with Nicolas Sarkozy.
Throughout the call, which was making the rounds in U.S. political circles by day's end Saturday, Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the perils of going hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Funny phone call.
Sounds like she suspects it is a prank, so she tests him with questions like the one about his wife, stays pleasant, keeps her composure, keeps her sense of humor, and uses the call as a chance to get on her talking points.
What would you have had her do?
Get nasty with the guy, so she could be painted as a bitch?
What I find disturbing about the call is that it appears to be another attempt by foreigners to influence the U.S. election. Isn't it interesting how all these non-Americans all seem to favor Obama.
You are just wrong on the VP thing. The VP has all the "powers" I've pointed out above as described in the Senate Rules.
