Question on McFadden's injury...

Postby Still Diesel » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:19 pm

Roy Williams breaks his forearm is he is gone for the season. McFadden breaks his and he is gone for only 5 weeks. Does anyone have some in depth medical knowledge as well as some info on the severity of the injuries?? Obviously Roy's was more severe it's just weird to see both with broken forearms, with Williams the only one on IR.

Roy broke it 3 weeks ago and again yesterday. Plus he's lost a step. Boys are facing a long season. Jerry has lost control and there is no one any good who will work for him.

T.O. could be history now that 2 men are covering him. I also think his deal is up too.

Don't know specifically about McFaddens injury or Roys, but broken bones come in a lot of varieties. (Spiral, Buckle, Compound) Some are more severe than others and take longer to heal. Location on the bone can make a difference also.

Broken arm is pretty vague, but being a PTA I can tell you there are MANY different types of 'broken bones' and they vary greatly in severity. Partial fractures are much less severe than compounds, and probably mcfadden has a partial if it's taking 4-5 weeks to heal. A compound is a complete breakage and could easily end someone's season, possibly the other guy had that.

Like stillhammer said, location is also important. An area close to bigger muscles tends to heal much faster as the area has a ton of circulation (more blood/nutrients flowing in the area = faster healing), whereas if the break is closer to the tendon area (much less circulated), the healing process can be very slow.

Thanks guys!! I thought it was a severity issue, however, if Roy initially broke his 3 weeks ago and did not give it enough time to heal that may have been why the re-break was more severe.
