I'm wondering why we haven't installed at least some form of offensive package to take advantage of the obvious talents of Dennis Dixon.
The guy can throw, runs well and seems to offer the same kind of flexibility that can give opposing D coordinators something else to prepare for. Besides, with the shortage of healthy running backs some additional outside speed, ala the Buffalo pre-season game, couldn't hurt.
It worked with Corky and ARE; why not now?

It may because they want Leftwich as the second QB. If the third QB comes in, the starting QB is out for the remainder of the game. With Ben getting knocked around as much as he is, they may feel more comfortable placing Leftwich as #2 just incase Ben has to miss a series or two. This places Dixon in a position where he can't come in till late in the game. Not positive on this, just something to think about. They still should be able to play Dixon in the 4th Quarter, though.

McLovin has been an advocate of this since Miamis been using the "wildcat." The NFL is a copycat league so let's copy the damn thing! If not Dixon let Hines or Melwede take a crack at it. McLovin has posted before that if it weren't for the uniforms you wouldn't be able to tell one NFL team apart from the next. It looks like the teams run the same exact plays week after week. The NFL is boring in that regard. Congrats to Miami who hired the Arkansas OC to help put some juice in their running attack and at the same time give something for their fans to cheer about. McLovin says experiment with the "wildcat" against Cinci and have some plays perfected for the Cowboys, Giants, Chargers etc. when it counts. Cowher and Whiz wouldve done it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Put Dixon in there, have Holmes or Moore line up as end who runs by every play, ala Ricky Williams in MIa.

Dix either hands off to Moore, pulls it down and runs, or throws. Why not?

If they want to use Dixon in the game they have to have him as QB #2, since he wears #2 he isn't eligible to play WR or RB so he has to be in as QB. If he's QB #3 he has to finish the game as QB.

He had major knee surgery less than a year ago. Give that knee a couple more months to get right then we will unleash the Dixon package in the playoffs. By the looks of our division we are a lock for the post season tourney......... Anyway if I was Tomlin thats how it would go down.

Who? And what were their number(s)? 10-19, and 80-89 are eligible to line up as WR, or RB without reporting. Slash wore #10.

Of course, that would mean having Dixon active as something other than EQB for the game, which would mean not dressing either a special teams guy or a backup.

That said, the wildcat would have many, many possibilities in the 'burgh, since we have a number of former QB's out there already including Ward and Miller. Lots of guys who can pitch AND catch.

The wildcat is a very tantalizing possibility, especially if there are further injuries either at RB or OL. Opening things up would be a likely option.

The idea is interesting. One advantage is a potential tackler has to follow the QB out on the edge. Instead of the QB handing off and carrying out a fake or simply watching the play.

I believe that if someone lines up farther than 7 yards behind the line scrimmage that it would be considered a kicking formation which would allow #2 to line up at a position other than quarterback. It may be more than 7 yards, but I recall that some number of yards back makes it .a kicking formation which permits some alternate mix of numbers being allowed.

That would be great, but I don't think we're ready. Didn't we just get done paring down the playbook for our remedial O-line? We have our hands full executing on our base plays. Would be a nice surprising addition later in the season assuming we settle in, get the communication down, all that.
