Steelers had their OC and OL coach BUT....

Postby McLovin » Tue Sep 30, 2008 5:31 pm

....they're in Arizona. Anybody second guessing the hiring of Tomlin? Whiz and Grimm running the offense looks a whole lot better than Arians and Larry Porn.

I think Tomlin's a very smart man. Because of the similarities that I'm seeing between his stoic style and Cowher's, I'm thinking that he was hired because he agreed to be a Rooney yes man and toe the line.

I'm shocked how more ppl don't see this. Why is it that certain traits of the Steelers remain regardless if there is a new coach/staff in place? The Rooneys control a lot more than they let the public know - that way they can avoid accountability and can increase their occurrences of being cheap instead of making this team as talented as possible.

The Rooneys are going to end up turning the Steelers into a team just like the Pirates. :(

WTF are you all talking about? The Cardinals got RAPED by the Jets; it was 34-0 at halftime; who cares about the garbage TDs they got in the 2nd half? They're 2-2 with wins against SF and Miami and we're 3-1 and on top of the division. If you want Whiz back, you can't count (and I predicted the Cards would take the NFC West).

I don't know if I'd call Cowher stoic. He wears his emotions on his sleeve.

What line are they toeing? This has been a pretty successful franchise over the past 30 years. You can criticize the Rooneys all you want, but the results have been pretty good. They are almost always playing for something.

I do not think that word means what you think it means. Cowher's and Tomlin's respective styles are nothing alike.

I thought this was a site for the educated football fan not a bunch of homers. I guess I was wrong. Whiz is a superior offensive mind to Arians and his offense is posting superior stats with a washed up qb, washed up rb, and a line with even less talent than ours. Larry Porn should not be mentioned in the same breath as Russ Grimm or any other line coach in the league. Shame on you homers...shame on all of you.

Whisenhunt and Grimm were not staying in Pittsburgh to remain offensive coordinator and offensive line coaches. Either one or the other was going to be the head coach. If Whisenhunt had gotten the job here Arians would probably still have ended up OC, Grimm would have left the organization and someone else would have been named OL coach.

McLovin wants to know why Grimm would've left? Does Castenator know Grimm personally?Grimm followed Whiz to AZ didn't he? Who is Whiz's OC in Arizona? Maybe he would be the OC here and not Arians. Does Castenator personally know Whiz? Whiz may have thought that Arians was not fit to be his OC. Besides McLovin believes that if Whiz was our head coach he would employ WHIZ's offense. Arians is running ARIANS' offense not WHIZ's offense

Bradshaws relationship is DIFFERENT than Bens and Wisenhunts. Firstly, Noll was the HEAD COACH BEFORE Terry got there. Second, Wisenhunt was interviewing for the job. Ben is the star employee and when that star employee tells the brass that he doesnt want to play for Wiz, will he get the job? At no time did Bradshaw say "I want Noll fired or I'm outta here". Ben took that stance sir and EVERYONE knew it.

So Scalaid is saying the Rooney family passed on a more qualified coaching candidate because Ben didn't like him.??..maybe but since when are the Rooney's the type to let the players make the key franchise decisions for them? They're not Howard Baldwin and let Lemiuex and the like chase coaches out of town. Besides everyone knows that the Rooney rule helped get Tomlin hired it had nothing to do with who Ben liked or disliked.

So how is Wisenhunt more qualified than Tomlin? Tomlin was groomed by Lovie and Dungy (two successful coaches). Wiz was groomed by Cowher (One successful coach). The Rooney rule was around LOONG before Tomlin got the job sir. By ALL not a few but ALL accounts, Mike Tomlin dazzles with his football mind. Everyone says that to a man. Who says that about Wisenhunt? Imagine how hard it is to conquer Cowhers players, well Tomlin did that and to a MAN, they have bought into his style and philosophy. I admit he is not as demonstrative as Cowher is but the players love his approach and his style. How do the players feel about Wisenhunt in Arizona? Lets start with another YOUNG PHENOM like Ben-Matt Leinart (CANT STAND THE GUY). Again, how is Wisenhunt more qualified than Tomlin? Tomlin won his division and took the Steelers to the playoffs in his 1st year (IN THE TOUGH AFC MIND YOU). Prior to that year the Steelers were 8-8 and missed the playoffs (Wisenhunt was on that staff). Currently, the Steelers are in 1st place in the division (IN THE TOUGH AFC). How are those Cards doing the in the WEAK NFC and even weaker NFC West, please tell us all how that QUALIFIED guy is doing????

There is nothing wrong with Arians's offensive philosophy. It's his ability to call plays, apply his offense and make in game adjustments that sucks. That's something that wouldn't change with Whisenhunt as head coach.

Grimm would not have stayed in Pittsburgh if he lost the head coaching job. Period. He joined Whisenhunt in Arizona only after all the head coaching vacanices around the league were already taken and he had no other alternatives.

McLovin wants to know how you guys figure Grimm only average OL coach. How many OL coaches are even interviewed for head coaching jobs? Tony Sparano is only current head coach who was OL coach. Anyway even if Grimm avg he is heads and shoulders above Larry Porn. As for Whiz, even if youre smarter than a 5th grader you know that Whiz has less to work with overall than Arians. If you prefer Warner to Ben you're high. If you prefer Edge to Willie you're way high. If you think the Cards OL is better than the Steelers...ok you're sober both suck...McLovin gives slight edge to Cards in receivers. Enjoy the weekend Lads...McLovin likes the steelers in mild upset 20-17.

Mc proves his ignorance once again. Grimm was considered for the job ONLY because Cowher gave him the Title of Assistant Head Coach. He will NEVER get another interview again. Russ has been a coach since he retired a hog. You mean to tell me it takes you until 07 to get a head coach interview?? Yeah, real qualified. How much talent does Skins coach Zorn have? Steelers were 8-8 and a non playoff team prior to Tomlin. How much talent did the Pats have prior to Parcells? How much talent did the Jets have prior to Parcells? How much talent did the Cowboys have prior to Jimmy Johnson? Now whats your NEXT excuse?????
