Dookie

Postby Homer J » Tue Sep 30, 2008 2:05 pm

He's baaack!

Stillers signed him today.

P-G says they're also expected to add Russell to roster either today or tomorrow.

Wonder who they'll add to the active roster on the OL. That move will tell you a lot about what they really think of Hills and whether that draft pick might pan out.

Are you freaking serious? Horrible signing. No other team picked him up for a reason...he sucks (and shits). He had one decent game against the crappy rams last year. Show some imagination Colbert and sign Ced Benson. At least he has some upside as former #4 overall pick. Maybe Ced's head is on straight after getting life lesson and wake-up call getting cut from bears. Colbert you make me want to puke no depth left on either line. Kirksche and Stapleton are now starters very scary

Yep, it's true. Here's the article courtesy of the Post-Gazette ~

Steelers sign Davenport, likely to add Russell
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
By Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers today signed Najeh Davenport to help rejuvenate their depleted offensive backfield.

Davenport worked out for the club late this morning and signed a contract early this afternoon. He played for the Steelers the past two years but was released after the Steelers drafted running back Rashard Mendenhall in the first round in April.

The Steelers will sign one more back, likely Gary Russell from their practice squad. He made the team to start the season, but was released before their game in Philadelphia to make room for a special teams player. He has been on their practice squad since.

The Steelers placed rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall (fractured shoulder) and guard Kendall Simmons (ruptured Achilles) on injured reserve.

Coach Mike Tomlin declared halfback Willie Parker officially out for a second straight week with a sprained knee and said he hopes he can return for their next game, in Cincinnati Oct. 19, after Jacksonville and after their bye week.

Nose tackle Casey Hampton and defensive end Brett Keisel also are out this week.

Tomlin said the sprained right ankle to running back Carey Davis responded well today but he's not yet ready to decide if Davis can play in Jacksonville.

Davenport, 29, played two seasons with the Steelers until he was released in June. He started the final game of the regular season and the playoff loss to the Jaguars last season when Parker fractured his fibula in Week 15.

Mendenhall was injured on the first play of the second half in last night's game when he was hit by Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis after a 3-yard gain. The Steelers finished the game with just one healthy running back -- Mewelde Moore -- after Davis left the game with his injury.

I don't know - he's quick and could pound the ball when he had the chance. Plus, he knows the system.
He just runs a little upright much of the time, but maybe that's coachable.

And wasn't the TE McHugh actually in at fullback for some plays last night? I thought the pass pro and run game actually improved when they used him, so I think we could see more of that. McHugh lead blocking and Dookie running it are actually a lot of beef to crack open a DL with. They also put a lot of beef beside Big Ben when he drops to pass.

This might be interesting...

I don't know why everyone seems to forget this, but the Dump Truck should be used as our return man. Last year he returned 7 times for a total of 123 yards, avg of 17.6 yards. Thats pretty fair if you recall how horrid our special teams were last year. Then in 06 he returned 21 times for 448 yards, avg. of 21.3 yards. Also 13 of those 21 returns were for 20 or more yards. I say go catch that kick Dookie!!

Dookie can't catch shit...pun intended...Dookie ok return man but c'mon nobody in the league wanted this guy. Colbert shouldve at least brought in some dudes for tryouts. Ced Benson for sure worth a look. Colbert must be pre-occupied looking at porn from Larry.

I don't like Dookie, but I like the move. :suxfingers:

With one healthy running back - a third down pass receiver - and FOUR DAYS TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT GAME, your options are limited. Remember, this guy is going to play THIS WEEK.

You must have someone who is familiar with the system, knows at least some of the plays, and is familiar with the personnel.
Who does that leave?

A. Verron Haynes
B. Dookie
C. Duce Staley
D. Jerome Bettis

Don't bother using a lifeline and calling a friend. The Poopmeister is the only choice we have here. If you want to go out and look for other rejects, that's fine, and there's a bye week coming up to sign one and work them in. But for now, your final answer has to be B. Scatman Davenport.

C'mon, you can at least add Amos Zereoue to that list! He's still only 31 or 32 years old. There's always room for Famous Amos!

I'd like to see Gary Russell get a shot.
Not excited by the Davenport signing.

We might need a FB also if Davis can't go.

You have a short week and need someone who can play THIS WEEK. Dookie was the obvious choice. Just because noone wanted to pay Veteran $$ to Dookie when a younger player can give you the same productivity doesn't mean that he is horrible. It just means that he is VERY MEDIOCRE and you can get that for much cheaper in the era of the salary cap.

Dook was the obvious choice, because he knows the system and can contribute right away.

On the other hand, Maybe we could give Amos Zeroyards a call. :?
