Re: Stillers-Jags Postgame Analysis and Grades
Can't argue with the Mill summary. Parity in W-L record due to fierce competition is one thing but the NFL has become a league of self-imposed attrition i.e. who can screw up the least? Coaches aren't being conservative; they're being absolute cowards - except, of course, when they call a no-chance RB draw on 3rd and 23.
The Steelers are just another tread-water NFL mishmash. No identity, no spark. Coaches, with their animosity toward the media, seem to resent and fear labels (even accurate ones) - a running team, a passing team, a finesse team, a grinder team - to the point where players are asked to do things at which they are not competent or experienced and where assistants are instructed to gameplan away from the inherent strengths of the personnel they see every day in practice. In the words of John Madden, every week is an exercise in trying to trick-f*** the opposing coach. This is the computerized, video-libraried, situational football uber alles, headset-wearing, Jumbotron-watching NFL in full bloom - and it stinks like a corpse flower. Instead of preparing players and relying on them to do a job a la Chuck Noll, every coach has become Tom Landry, with all due respect to Landry's early innovations. The NFL's broadcasters apparently think it compelling viewing to see an Offensive Coordinator muttering behind his laminated play sheet. If NFL offenses are as complicated as they claim, why are so many teams running the same basic, eminently predictable, unproductive nonsense?
Why do quarterbacks, including BR7, get so animated when talking about 2-minute drills even with the danger factor? Because they get a few fleeting moments free of chickens*** stretch plays and bubble screens. Running backs run toward the end zone and receivers get downfield. What a concept!
Small quibble: I wonder if the Spaeth line has a typo - 'scare' instead of 'scarce.' Considering Spaeth's boring, repetitive uselessness each week it's hard to fault Mill for copy-n-paste but it's just one of those things an avid reader notices.

Spaeth - dressed, and wasted oxygen, plus a scare spot on the 45-man game-day dress roster. Did jack shit all game long. C - See more at: http://stillers.com/Article/View/0c7ffa ... XDXT8.dpuf

Everyone is running bunch sets with at least one easy outlet, this to get rid of the ball in under 3 seconds. All the preseason talk of speed was shown by McCain to get to the pick6
Can't blame Haley when Ben fumbles or takes sacks by holding the ball too long. One has to take a look at all the plays that Ben has extended and got something out of. He needs to throw the ball away sometimes when we could be in scoring position, but otherwise I enjoy his brand of football. Chuck Noll used to get furious with Terry Bradshaw for holding on to the ball too long, but it led to some pretty good things. Also people blamed Haley last week for going to the well too often on that 3rd down run, and now you call him out for not going to Heath. I think it is important to remember that there are 11 more games to go and 11 more opportunities for Haley to establish different threats offensively. Your words would have wisdom if Haley did not use Heath and we LOST a playoff game, but right now it is important to show possible O weapons for opposition DC to prepare for. It is good to see Archer and Blount be involved. They if uninjured ARE going to do some damage. Finally please Mr. LeBeau get Tuitt more snaps and dress McKullers and give him some snaps. We don't want to hope for someone to be injured to see these guys on the field.

It might be the tablet that I am using. I just saw why some of my posts aren't posting, I had to press submit on the post again after filling out the trick question before it would post! Had to hit submit 3 separate times to post. Usually, mostly it is only 2. Just a possible heads up to you.

Re: Stillers-Jags Postgame Analysis and Grades
Excellent summary and posts above.
I have sort of liked what Haley is trying to do, but my biggest criticism is the stupid empty back set. Just after successful runs, he has continuously gone to empty backfield which leaves no doubt in the defenders mind for pass/run. The running game is the strength of this offense right now, especially the offensive line. How in the hell do you run so many fucking plays without that threat in the backfield; and more importantly provide added protection for Ben? Most of the plays run from this set have led to disaster. Work to the strengths of your players instead of trying to drive a square peg in a round hole!

Agree with Mill's analysis and most of the posts. Curious why Bell gets pulled for Blount when he appears to be gaining traction, but whatever. I thought the OC did an OK job in this one. First, if ben doesn't commit that assholic fumble, we have 3 or 7 more points. Second, if Tomlin's "discipline and accountability" weren't just a lot of hot air and bullshit bravado we wouldn't have self destructed with almost 100 penalty yards in the first half. Also, the first two three and outs were the result of easy drops; one by Wheaton which went through his hands and one by AB which resulted from a collision between him and another Stiller as the ball arrived. Frankly, it should be noted that the reason Palmer was so wide open for his TD (besides the fact that he's Palmer) was that there was a feint by the slot WR into a fake bubble screen which drew the cover guy in when he bit on it, leaving a gap in the zone there. That was actually one instance where a play was designed to fool the defense and get a man open, and it worked.
All in all, the Stillers scare me right now. We made the Brownies, the Fuckinqueers, and the Jagoffs look like super bowl contenders. Or maybe I'm just in denial about the fact that the Stillers are actually just as shitty as those three teams...

I saw Tomlin chewing ass on the sidelines, then proceed to put them right back in the huddle. If you commit a boneheaded penalty, you need to ride the pine for a while.
Just like children.... Nobody really cares if they're yelled at, but the ass will pucker a little tighter when you take something away that matters.

Re: Stillers-Jags Postgame Analysis and Grades
The person he chewed was Lance Moore who had just gotten a completely bogus delay of game celebration penalty for 5 yds.

You can bullet point all the issues and what you end up with is:
The entire underachieving rabble is a socialist style stupifyingly mundane group of comrades who are living down to the Danny Boy standard of sub mediocrity. In other words - this team is performing exactly according to Rooney's plan. Cant have anyone putting up good numbers - can't have any dominant performances. That would be way to competitive for Dan's taste. Nooooo - we must all accept the New Steelers mission statement. No winning - just barely break even. This is the Obama style of football that Danny has brought to Pittsburgh. Sooo sit back for the next decade and enjoy the squalid luke warm style of football.

I've begun wearing a tin foil helmet so that Obama and Dan Rooney's thought police can't read my mind...
