A need pick for sure, but a guard...in round 1
Lindy's has him ranked as the top Guard.

I actually love this pick. Everyone was so enamored with DBs, WRs, and speed rushers that they allowed the best OG in the draft to fall into our laps. He should have been a top 10-15 pick. The best part is that his attitude & work ethic match the Stillers perfectly.

I immediately thought. The next Alan Faneca Era has begun. I LOVE the pick. I LOVE IT. Clog that middle up and here comes a running game. Welcome to the Burgh Mr DeCastro. I even LOVE the name. DD

I think it is a good pick. It seems to me that you want a safe valuable player in round one and by all reports DeCastro is exactly that. They were comparing him to Steve Hutchinson who I still cannot believe we did not try to get. Any opposition to this pick probably did not want us to take Alan Faneca years ago either.

That's exactly who I thought of as well. Solid pick.

All of our comments on what a great pick this is seem to mirror what we're hearing from the talking heads on the set. Living here on the left coast, I've seen this guy play a lot and he is that good but the real clincher for me were the comments of Colbert and Tommy; pretty high praise, indeed. Pouncey, Fidel and Gilbert sounds like a pretty strong right side.

Honestly, I don't think I've been this excited about a pick in a long time.
Before the draft started, I was thinking it would be great if Corey from Georgia fell to Pittsburgh. I thought even that would be a bit of a stretch.
But to have David DeCastro drop all the way down to #24? I couldn't have hoped for anything better. This is exactly the first position the Steelers needed to fill, and now they have one of the best guys to do it. As some of you already stated, they're comparing him to Faneca, Hutchinson. And those comparisons are warranted if you've watched him play. He was the key to Stanford's rushing offense.
Having him and Pouncey working the inside....wow imagine the possibilities. I would love to see them pancake the likes of Haloti Ngata and BJ Raji.
Filling that void on the O line helps the entire offense out. With a maturing offensive line, and now having Todd Haley to coach the offense, I'm really optimistic and looking forward to the upcoming season.
