Great analysis as usual. This is the best top to bottom view of the draft I have seen and allows readers actually to undertand that the draft is not all about who is selected in round one and there are multiple players are every position that could help. Other commentators repeatedly lose focus and act like if you need a WR, you must take one in round one instead of getting Antonio Brown in round 6 and having that be okay.
Is Pouncey finally going to be healthy? It seems like our O-Line would be better right there if that could occur.
As to positions, the Haven analysis highlights O-Line, NT, ILB, and safety as being staunch needs with other positions being more of a luxury. If Barron Batch is healthy, he could be the third down back or you could pick up a FA. Same with WR, if need be.
It seems we need to add someone at NT, unless Hampton is making great strides to return in the best shape of his life. BEFORE his injury, he was getting pushed around for the first time in his career. No telling what he will be like now. McClendon, Hood, Kiesel (back from injury), and Heyward seem like they need some help. Lsoing Hoke as a back-up hurts quite a bit as well. I would not take Poe (inconsistent energy at NT says no thank you) -- but there should be someone that can provide quality interior play without being spectacular. We do not need an all pro, only someone competent that won't stink. Hopefully, the FO can figure that out in the middle rounds.
We need to rely on the kids at CB with improved speed there (just listen to Harbaugh's halftime interview during the last Steelers-Ravens game to know this). He looked very confident while trailing and merely said they need to exploit our Corners --meaning everyone knows they cannot play. Playing the kids has to be an upgrade.
Speed at ILB and maybe safety would solve a lot of problems.
BTW, for the first time we really seem to have some holes and our schedule on paper is brutal. I sure hope the FO can pull out some winners as we need some.
Please keep quality analysis like this coming. It is a true service against the backdrop of sound bites and short-sighted views of others.
