How Awful is Ike Taylor??
Remember that drop of a game-winning TD pass by Bills' receiver Steve Johnson in the 2010 season? If you watch the replay, you see he was Ike's man, and when Johnson ran past him, Ike gave up on the play. As if he expected Ryan Clark to single-handedly defense the play........ (Clark took a bad angle on the receiver.) Ike then pointed to Clark after the drop, as if to say "He was your guy, not mine"............
(Suisham later kicked a FG to win the game.)
It wasn't like I was looking for these plays...... I stumbled across this video. I really didn't pay much attention to what took place prior to the drop. At the time, I presumed it was just a blown coverage.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

He really has been an enigma the past few years. Sometimes he has shuts down the better WRs in the league. Other times, like last Sunday, he makes an average WR at best haul in 4 catches for over 200 yards.

Ike's swag sometimes get in the way of effective play... I like Ike. He plays quite well in some games, but he has some real bad games against average WRs... He does have the hands of stone though... The thing is, if the Pressure isn't getting to the QB, and he has all day to move around, and throw, Ike isn't gonna cover the WR the whole time... That's where getting to the QB is paramount... Woodley, and Taunto Farrior will never be construed as track stars.

My take is totally different...... Ike plays "good" because we've put good pressure on the QB....... My point is any DB would play well under such conditions......... But the times we don't get presssure on the QB (we cannot get pressure on every play), Ike's ineptitude shows up in spades. I'm just tired of our backfield being unable to make a play whenever our pass rush is unable to.Ed Burns wrote:Ike's swag sometimes get in the way of effective play... I like Ike. This is what separates the Ravens' defense from ours. And why the Ravens are still playing. The only time I hear Ike Taylor's name is whenever he commits pass interference penalties. He just flat out sucks, and like Bruce Arians, I'd celebrate if someone merely average were to replace him. (My opinion of Taylor is as low as Mill's opinion of Woodley. But at least Woodley makes plays on occasion. Taylor's rare picks are of the "Dong" variety too.)

Re: How Awful is Ike Taylor??
I agree with you on the Defensive Backfield assessment. I just think Ike's a bit more consistent than Willie Gay. They still live, and die by Polamalu though... I'd like to see our DBs get a little more aggressive in jumping routs. That's one specific difference I've seen between the Steelers D, and the Ratbirds D for quite a while now. Other than Troy, or once in a great while, Willie Gay(which is no real endorsement for him), how many times do we see our CBs react to the ball, and jump the routs? If Ike makes a play on the ball, he bats it down more often than not, instead of picking it off...
