Re: New Article: A Final Word on Tebow and the Stillers
Good article.
But I do disagree with the luck factor. Over many attempts, luck washes out.
Maybe Doncos were lucky with some completions actually working out,
esp. with the touchdown. However, Doncos also had some time-chewing,
somewhat sustaind drives in the second half:
3Q
15:00 4:35 DEN 20 7 42 Punt
4:29 6:19 DEN 20 12 63 FG
4Q
9:59 2:24 DEN 20 5 36 Fumble
3:42 2:05 DEN 15 5 20 Punt
Except for the fumble, stillers got the ball at their 25 or worst.
Doncos chewed 11 (eleven!!) minutes in the 3Q with somewhat
sustained drives.
Would you argue that Doncos got unlucky in the 2H by only mustering 3 pts?
Now, look at a different game: Doncos at Pats.
Pats are a lot worse defense than the Stillers.
Look at the drive log:
1Q
13:04 2:57 DEN 24 6 35 Fumble
6:37 3:11 DEN 17 6 31 Punt
2:00 2:14 NE 24 4 9 TD
2Q
13:27 2:10 DEN 5 3 7 Punt
7:42 1:11 DEN 20 3 1 Punt
5:44 3:17 DEN 11 7 23 Punt
1:57 0:48 DEN 20 3 5 Punt
0:05 0:00 DEN 20 1 -1 End Half
That's 3 3-and outs, giving total time of possession of 4 minutes and pennies.
The other drives where somewhat longer, but still, total TOP was 9 minutes.
(The TD drive was off a Brady INT, and short field).
I think the drive log from Pats-Doncos shows how a mediocre defense with
a good game plan contains a really bad offense.
The short drive created by interception is luck (or opportunity) for he Donco's offence.
The drive log from Stillers-Doncos game has too many holes to be attributed
to luck on the part of Doncos.
Also, just another comment. Denver is statisticaly somewhere
between 20th and 30th based on the 2011 NFL regular season.
That's probably why the Pat-Doncos game score looks like there is a basketball
team playing against a team that is lucky to be on the scoreboard.

Re: New Article: A Final Word on Tebow and the Stillers
The Pats might have a mediocre defense, but the corners were at least adequate. The Pats' corners made Tebow hold onto the ball longer, and they defensed three throws statistically, compared to the Steelers' one. The Pats also cheated the DBs like the Steelers, with a corner leading the team in tackles. (Unlike LeBeau, Belichick mixed cheating the corners with the safeties...... Maybe an option taken away from LeBeau due to Ryan Clark being out.) But with the superior coverages, the Broncs were then forced to use more receivers, which in turn meant less protection, and enabled the Pats to rush Tebow and get sacks...... In defensing Tebow, it starts with the one-on-one coverage against the marshmallow passes and restricting Tebow's running left. The Pats had no problem.
Tebow, more than any QB I've ever seen in the NFL, along with the Broncos' power run game, is an indicator on how good your corners really are. This was always a ghastly weak spot with the Steelers, but until Tebow, it really became apparent.
I'll go as far as saying if we had either Pats starting corner starting in place of Ike Taylor last week, we win that game in Denver.
I don't buy the "luck" thing either. It was a case of a vastly overrated cornerback incapable of playing "playground" type football, nothing more, nothing less.
The one sick thing about this whole ordeal is that the Pats once again have had a very easy trek to the AFC Championship game. With their luck, Texas upsets Baltimore, and they get another second-rate quarterback standing in the way of another Super Bowl appearance. But if Balt. wins, my two least favorite teams in the entire NFL will be in the AFCCG......... Pass the barf bag.................

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

Good article. Especially like the custom stats like team to give up the most yards in the last 10 minutes, etc etc etc
the thing that kept jumping out at me for every "weird" stat you talked about was this. Your entire article points directly at LeBeau. For every situation that defies the stats the answer is Lebeau! The 10 passes for 316 yards for the 31.6 average SCREAMS LeBeau. The OT pass begs the reader to come to the conclusion LeBeau! Those 10 passes were monsters because of LeBeau. Those options that ate us alive (but the Pats swamped) were because of LeBeau! EVERY DAMNED play Tebow killed us on was a result of the incompetency of LeBeau. The inability (or stubborness) of LeBeau to make an adjustment. Having Troy in all the wrong places - LeBeau. Putting our CBs on the outside shoulder of wide receivers with no SS over the top. LeBeau.
I like Dick as a man, but his days are over.

#31 defense holds Donkos to 10 and #1 gives up 29? All because #31D had actually played em before??? Thats the big reason?? Time for some radical thought:
If we had beat the Donkos we were the walking wounded vs NE and in all probability we get humilated like Denver did?? EVen if u luk out and beat NE then u get to play Balt then GB?? Oh boy, with 1/3 the starters out. Forget that BS they tell the players & fans about next man in line. Thats for when they send the next guy in line over the top in war. Maybe it was just lets stay aggressive, bring every one up vs the run and secretly hope we get TeBowed?
Or, its the ole Steeler stand-by: once the entire world believes the Steelers will massacre em, including the players/coaches, we usually fall flat on are faces or barley win
