Garrard or McNabb to back-up Ben?

Postby Steelers76 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:35 am

With Ben's ankle being what it is now, does anyone think The Steelers might be well advised to give either David Garrard or Donavan McNabb a call to back up No. 7 in case he goes down again?(Which, given the way he was hobbling on that thing looks to be very possible.) I like Charlie Batch, but it's clear to me he has nothing left to offer. But that's me. What say you? Discuss....

I would vote for Garrard. McNabb is too much of a self centered egotistical idiot and would be poison in our locker room. Tomlin has built a team in which the members think team first. Notice how Ben, in the post game interview, kept saying that he came back into the game because he didn't want to let his guys down. McNab is not that way at all.

With Garrard, on the other hand, there might be some friction with Leftwitch. So I don't know.

If that's true about Garrard and The Steelers did sign him, both he and Leftwich would need to get over it. Like you said, Team first, and not petty personal bullshit that happened several years ago....

Speaking of Garrard, where is he? With all of these starting QBs in The NFL getting hurt, I haven't heard his name mentioned as a possible replacement for ANY of them. He's seemingly fallen off the map. Last year he threw for 23 TD passes, and 2 years ago he was selected to play in The Pro Bowl. Is there something wrong with him I don't know about?

Garrard had to have surgery for some reason... I can't remember why, but he is basically out for the year. Non-football related if memory serves.

McNabb would be a good pick up. He didn't play that bad with the Vikings, but the rest of the team just stinks up there. Percy Harvin was hobbled with bad ribs most of the year and that hurt McNabb. I don't buy that he's a problem in the locker room either.

Yeah, I just looked up McNabb's number's for this season, and they aren't that bad. 4 TD passes 2 INT's and a QB Rating just under 83. And this is all playing on a shit team as well....

As far as him being a locker room cancer, I don't know that I've ever heard any stories about that. Only thing he's done that I didn't like was playing cheerleader for that scumbag Vick in Philly 2 years ago, but that would have nothing to do with him being a locker room disruption....

Garrard did have surgery and is not an option. The sole option would be McNabb. The problem would be he does not know the plays and is clearly not what he was. That said, Batch is horrific so it is worth a thought. Dixon is not an option clearly.

This is where the Leftwich injury early on left us exposed. Without him, we have little shot to win games without Ben.

We probably should rest Ben, have him miss the SF game, and see if he can show for the Rams and Browns. If need be, one would hope we can beat the Rams without Ben.

That's why if Ben's injury had to happen, other than on the cusp of a bye week, it was a "good" time for it. Not only a week and a half to rest, but if they did sign McNabb, he'd have nearly 2 weeks to learn the playbook. Plenty of time to learn the system. Besides, how hard can learning Dumbfuck Arians Offense be?.....

Donovan gets a load of shit for little reason other than he has a mopey demeanor. I dont think he is a bad person and I think he is a decent QB in his own rite. But his style of west coast is for a younger guy. He stinks in the pocket.

I think the Steelers should see about getting Hines Ward ready to play QB!
