Just heard the news on Smitty. This trip to the IR is most certainly heralding the end of his outstanding career. Thanks for years of thankless dirty work in the trenches that allowed countless Steeler LB's trips to the Pro Bowl, Aaron. He really has been a shell of himself with the IR claiming him before October was over for the past three seasons. Great strength and courage from a career long Stiller. This is the first step in a long hard march of exiting veterans in the twilight of their careers for this Steeler defense. Sobering thought this weekend as all four starting linebackers from the Super Bowl 40 winning Steelers will be on the field playing in Az.

I was watching Bill Belichick's show the week before Super Bowl 40. He presciently picked the Steelers to win, saying they were a big play team and would win on big plays.

He was asked who the standout Steeler players were. Without skipping a beat, he said, "at end, they've got Aarons Smith, who has got everything you could possibly want at that position."

Aaron Smith was a classic role model for many a Pittsburgh football fan. In a business where plenty of guys (Carson Palmer, Joe Flacco) get egregiously slurped to the point of a brain freeze, Smith dominated the line of scrimmage for years during his prime, and yet never required any attention what so ever for his contributions. A good man on and off the field.

Smith is a Pittsburgh Steelers Hall Of Famer for sure , and worthy of at least consideration for a yellow jacket and bust in Canton as well.
