O-LINE

Allow me to state the obvious: Ben cannot continue to take the pounding he is taking, and it was predicted here that he might not survive the Texans game. He almost did not. The teams that are losing now have no offensive lines: us, Philly, Jets, Bears, Atlanta. For us, it was proven years ago that Essex cannot play tackle, particularly left tackle. We lost the JAX playoff game because Essex played left tackle. That season ground to a halt because of offensive line issues and the continuing problem that Ben could not stay upright long enough. This was all shown before. Everyone knows we do not have the personnel right now to play traditional offense. Essex is a swinging gate. We played much of last year with two starting tackles, Flozell and Starks, that are not on the roster. We make any team look like it has a great pass rush. BTW, the Titans have exactly the type of 4 man rush that gives us fits even when we have a "good" line (this is a relative term). Hence, next week looks like another beatring for Ben if he plays.
The positive running game did not even stop the abuse. This means teams do not fear us running and can play the run on the way to the passer. We run no screens, few gadgets, and basically throw predictable passes which take more time than we have. The line is so bad basically every pass is a jail break to Ben. Often, two or more defenders meet at him. If Ben was immobile (like brady) he would be in the hospital now.
Our offense is like defenders counting one mississippi and then rushing full out with no one in front of them. Ben has to avoid one, two or three guys to throw a fifteen yard pass. Unless we starting scheming differenly, there is no chance. Teams smell a bad O-Line like blood in the water. They do not fear the big pass play much because there is no time to get it off.
The only thing in our favor is the schedule assuming we can sneak by this week. We have a huge chance of losing this week so nothing can be taken for granted. Sad to watch. Very sad.
