Mill, I believe the 2009 season is going to look good compared to what you are seeing here at this point. They can't even stop a running game now. In 2009, passing ate them up like usual, but this team is scary bad on defense and the offense is inept beyond anything you saw in 2009. The offense would score and then the defense would collapse. This year both are collapsing. Worse yet? You cannot deny that is rebuilding time and they got nothign to replace veterans. Name me who is going to come in for Farrior, Foote, Hampton, McFadden, Polamalu, Clark, Harrison? And they have to spend picks to completely rebuild an offensive line. They will have so many holes that it will possibly be a 3 to 4 year rebuilding effort.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Texans Postgame Analysis and Grades
Pretty good asssssesment. A few more games like this and will be hoping for at least as good as the 2009 season
Re: New Article: Stillers-Texans Postgame Analysis and Grades
I agree... last year at least our defense bailed us out when needed. This year we can't stop the run, can't pressure a QB and our LB's are too slow for pass coverage.
I can't justify that performance with too much of a response. All I know is that if I did my job as poorly as our o-line does theirs, I'd be fired on Monday morning. It really blows my mind that we're paying these guys and they somehow made it to the National Football League.
We spent the last few years revamping our skill positions, which are great but aren't worth a crap with this patty cake o-line...
Also - Woodley is totally worthless.

Mill, superb write-up. There was much to criticize and you covered all of the bases. This game reminded me of last year's Super Bowl vs. the Packers - close score but only because Houston made so many mistakes. Steelers deserved to lose by about 20 points. And yet, there we were with a chance to win in the 4th quarter. But Ben R overthrows Antonio Brown, the defense is unable to contain the Texans, and Arians stops running the ball after a great punt return and plenty of time left on the clock. I honestly can't decide about the goat of the game because all of the candidates merit serious consideration. If pressed, I'd vote for #56, who is being paid far more than anyone on the offensive line and whiffed on the losing touchdown run. Can we get a refund on some of that $61 million? With the offensive line unable to protect and the defensive line unable to stop the run, every game will be a struggle. We are right on track for 8-8 - if our luck holds up.

Look at the bright side... this is opening up a lot more time on fall weekends to get some fresh air and finally paint the garage. Because this shit is not worth watching. It only gives us angina.
Hey, tourofan, you still want to make some whaleshit post about counting up the victories? I said before, take nothing for granted. The way this is looking, it's take abso-fuckin-lutely nothing for granted.

Think about this too--the only free agent that they seriously went after was P. Burress--WTF were they thinking with that offensive line? Another receiver who disappears coming off two years of not being in the league? Good thing the Jets were stupid enough to stop that deal. About the only thing that I can see right now that they did correctly was re-sign Ike Taylor.

OldSchool,
Angina is a pretty big word considering your usually limited vocabulary in these posts. Is someone in your family a doctor? As to my posts earlier this year, you again have mischaracterized what I wrote - I wasn't counting victories, I was establishing expectations. Still, I am flattered that you took the time to write. Now go out and get some fresh air instead of sitting by your computer waiting for this reply.

Mill, you have my permission to pull up all of my former posts where I bashed you for bashing Dick and feebly and emotionally tried to defend him and I'll post a public apology on the site for doubting that Dick is washed up and needs to go. But also, there really needs to be a dong report on Mendy. Every time Moore and Redman touch the ball, yardage. Redman in particular seems only to know how to do one thing: go forward. Mendy is a big enough back to punish, but he's too much interested in "Hammer time" at the line of scrimmage. Redman runs like he's hungry. I for one am ready for the Redman era to begin.

I will defend LeBeau to this extent: when the Bears were dominating with their 46 defense, everybody praised Buddy Ryan as a genius but that genius dimmed somewhat as he couldn't maintain that standard. In hindsight, two things about the 46 were true: 1) it required some superhuman athletes in their prime especially at LB and 2) it took a huge number of chances throughout a game. Offenses of the day couldn't adjust.
LeBeau's system is similarly reliant on personnel but their challenge is mental as well as physical: the personnel must know the complex system as well as LeBeau does. This is why he has held onto 'his guys' (as he calls them) and why roster changes are made infrequently and only out of necessity. On the rare occasions when LeBeau loses his temper it's because someone is out of position i.e. not working within the scheme.
It's easy to say the players are getting old but there is also a little (or a lot) complacency in the entire unit. In the past they were able to take a chance and rely on a teammate to make a tackle if they couldn't. That safety net has now gone. Polamalu is still dashing around the field like a madman but this time he's simply trying to clean up the mess made by the 7 players in front of him.

Not hungry for it anymore. You've got some subs who are, maybe a couple of starters, Polamalu, Miller, Harrison, but there is not enough hunger to win on this team.
Christ, the way they were yammering in the pre-season, you'd have thought they won the friggin' super bowl, not getting their asses kicked in it.

Re: New Article: Stillers-Texans Postgame Analysis and Grades
The Steelers defense has been studied and copied extensively throughout the NFL. It isn't a surprise to anyone anymore and the personnel in it are getting a step slower and a year weaker. And they never had great corners anyway. But the new problem of getting gashed for huge hunks of yardage on the ground is horrific. I hope that winning against skanky teams doesn't fool Tomlin and Colbert into thinking that they have a winning team here. The window has closed on it and they may as well move on to rebuilding. They do need to fire Arians too and start with a new offensive system and for fucks sake Colbert... get a clue and get better linemen in here.. Jesus how long are you going to fuck around and pretend that what you have is going to work?

@touro, say whatever you want, but you were counting wins, bro.
I'm a Tomlin backer, not basher, but all the bashing on colbert makes me wonder how much input coaching staff has on personnel... i mean, if tomlin were jumping up and down and saying "we can;t win with these schmoes" then something would be done... right? anyone really understand that relationship?

Re: New Article: Stillers-Texans Postgame Analysis and Grades
Bruce Arians should be fired right now. There are no rollouts away from the strong side rush, very little deception at the point of attack. I saw that once-a-season run play from the shotgun. And too much go down the field with an OL that limits such option. (I'd also complain about a lack of play action, but you need a good run game in order for it to be effective.)
Every offense has its weak points, but BA was never able to adjust the schemes to the personnel. Now with less than a healthy cast, only a strong QB extending the play has saved his offense from being an absolute embarrassment. (I personally would have given Ben a "B" for the game. I think with most quarterbacks with that offense, the Texans would have gotten a shutout.)
The longer Bruce Arians remains the OC, the shorter Mike Tomlin's tenure as HC. (And the shorter Ben's career will be.) Tomlin's problem is he's too stubborn to make changes to fix problems. He thinks repeating the same crap will eventually yield different results.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Texans Postgame Analysis and Grades
Couldn't agree more with mill. How disappointing this season already is turning out to be. The OL is worthless no doubt. It also seems to me that Ben is not as quick and mobile like he used to be. I think sometimes I'm too hard on Ben after watching how much time other QB's in the league have to stand in the pocket and throw the ball. Its no wonder Brady is so good, he has 5 seconds to just stand there and see who comes open. We could easily be swept this year by the stains and the bungals. How embarrassing.
The Steelers will only be as successful as Big Ben is!

If you hold Houston to 17 points you should win the game, period. I'm normally not a hater, but I fucking can't stand Arians. How is it that 95% of fans know the guy is a complete fucking tool yet this guy continues to lead the offense on the best franchise in the NFL?
2nd on my evergrowing shitlist is Retard Spindenhall. For 2 years now I've had to endure this fuckfaces dancing routine behind the LOS and avoiding contact while a guy with balls of steel rots the bench. Redman fits perfectly in a Steelers uniform while that piece of shit Socrates belongs on the Dallas fucking Cowboys! I'm an American first, then a Steelers fan, so I don't think it is possible for me to ever like that guy. It is this Dickhead's fault we are a mess because he injected bad kharma into the organization. I would have no problem never seeing this douchebag again.
One thing I did notice, however, is that at least Lebeau finally figured out to play the CB's right up on the LOS and it definately helped the pass defense. Unfortunately, just as it seems that may be getting fixed our fucking D-line falls apart! FUCK!

Harrison will be out with a fractured orbital bone. He called out woodley earlier this week. THere is one thing about James, once he is on that field, no one will be able to say they are tougher or play harder than him. As tough as it is to replace Troy, it will be tough to find another James Harrison in today's spoiled athlete world.

Touro, I don't know what the F**k you are talking about. You predicted a record weeks ago that included wins against the Texans and Titans. I said then you were being too optimistic.
The loss of James is... just... too..much...to...bear.
