9-11-11, STEELERS vs. RAVENS GAME THREAD#1

Postby steelwest » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:39 pm

Should be interesting to see what happens in this week's Ravens game. Always tough to play a team you knocked out of the playoffs plus it is on their home field. And it is a division grudge match.
The real question is whether the Ravens got better or worse. Do we think the changes at RB losing McClain and McGahee in favor of Williams and Leach are an upgrade or downgrade? Is losing Heap, Mason, and Houshmanzadeh in favor of Lee Evans and some rookies an upgrade or downgrade? And how about the Raven defense being a year older? My sense is I think the Ravens will be worse this year than last. The Evans pick up really helps them but Reed and Ray are only getting older. McKinnie should still be fat.
Steelers on the other hand should be able to move the ball more and have more explosive plays with A. Brown, Wallace, Sanders, Mendenhall, etc. Of course, Ben needs time to throw which he typically does not get against Ravens. It seems to me that if we can get the game in the 20s Steelers win. It is is in the teens or below, could go either way.
Let's see. Hopefully the corners can hold up.

The loss of both Heap and Mason has been hugely understated IMO. Those guys were 2 of only a handful of guys on offense who were clutch for them. The Ravens will regret releasing Heap the most. That is almost the equivalent of the Steelers dumping Heath for Spaeth as the starting TE. We've upgraded or stayed the same at nearly every position while the Ravens cannot say the same. Sure Ozzie Newsome made some good pick-ups, but maybe at the expense of experience and clutchness (if that's a word :? ) Continuity should favor the Steelers early on in the season while other teams struggle to gel.

Nothing like a slugfest to open the season......and nothing could be better for the Steelers. It seems like the team always needs a wake up call at some point in the season......like getting beat, or winning a close one. I think starting the season against a non-creampuff will do the every bit of good, and set the tempo they need for the season.

Awesome line-up of receivers we have here boys. Can't wait to see some imagination, schemes and mis-matches. Too bad we have our own version of Obama in the meetings - you know, the guy with NO FREAKIN" CLUE whatsoever.

Let's do a 5-wides set and add a trick, says BA.
"We'll send out our 5 guys... only THIS time we'll have Ben drop back 9 steps instead of 7!!! Heh-heh, ...that'll fool them Ratbirds don't ya think?"

No quick-hitters here with these guys. No way. Too good to be crossing over behind the backers. We need these guys ALL headed deep one way an Ben back-peddlin' the other. This OL is a disaster just waiting to let someone get hurt real bad.

Geez, can't you guys just wait to see more excrement from Arians this season?
Pictures! Pictures, I tell ya'. He MUST have a bottom drawer full of pictures.

We should run more of the Az Hakim plays where we throw a 3 yard pass to Antonio Brown and let him blow past slow LBs and make big runs. Those plays are easy to design and can be killers, particularly in the second half of games when defenses get tired.

Even if we do not, this is the first year in a long time where the Steelers can probably outscore most teams and win shoot-outs if they have to do so.

Should be fun. :sudancin:

I thought we could have won many shootouts last year if Arians wasn't stepping on his own dick. Actually, I think he might be permanently standing on his dick.

How can he step on it if he can't even find it? Using BOTH hands? With a grade school health book? with somebody pointin' at it?

Yes, Steelwest, it SHOULD be easy, ala Wes Welker, AND WE GOT 3 JUST LIKE HIM,...and this moron can't figure it out !!!!

Gosh, I just fear we will waste all this talent with Mendy up Colon's colon, then Redman up there, and when they don't comeback, we'll send Dwyer up there too! We have the talent to convert 60% or better on 3rd down but Tomlin, et al will be satisfied w/ 33%. No one will question this "offensive" (and I mean OFFENSIVE) guru BECAUSE BR likes him and we have to keep BR happy.

Wouldn't ya love to see Miller on an "out" drag, Brown on the same side doing a fly taking safety and corner, Sanders in Slot slanting thru the middle taking safety and have Wallace come across the field behind backers (7yds) from other side and BR hits him at hash mark with an open secondary. Hines takes the corner on other side of field with him and Wally beats MLB or safety left in middle- whoever is the poor bastard left to catch him. Too FREAKING E-Z! AND WE WON'T SEE IT!

The Baltimore secondary is weak, so it will want extra defensive backs on the field to help cover passes. Establishing a ground game will be critical. Running keeps an extra linebacker(s) on the field, and prevents Ben from taking too many hits via the blitz. Passes to Miller are a great way to dictate linebacker coverage, and when that happens then the Stillers could try something like what you are talking about.

If we get competent play from both OTs and both CBs we win handily. That's a big "if" as both positions are crucial and both are question marks going in. If not, it could be a long day.

I'll give McFadden props for the effort to swat the ball, but yeah, not good. Clark showed once again on that first big run that he's a feeble eunuch when ppl see him coming. He's a player that could be found in the bottom rounds of the draft every single season, and for less money.

Hey at least he was on his receiver and got a hand up. Or maybe William Gay, who turned Giordi Nelson into a one-day god should be out there? I think not. This second series will show us more.

Get real blood. Mcfadden blew chunks like a worn out rag doll. Matter of fact - the Steelers en masse look horrible outclassed and getting beat to a fucking pulp without so much as a whimper
