Timmons signs 6 year deal
Per mike and mike on espn radio, the steelers signed Lawrence Timmons to a 6 year deal. I believe they said it was worth 50 million.

A great signing. Timmons is the real deal and will be the next great Stiller linebacker.

It's not only about who you sign, but when you sign them. Had they waited another year to make a deal, Timmons value would undoubtedly be much higher after what we witnessed last year. Colbert and Kahn have made great decisions on signings and when to use the franchise tag to carefully balance payroll year to year. I'm 99% sure Troy will be tagged next season and they will see where he is health-wise after that before offering him a deal. I love Troy, but the front office usually makes good decisions with veteran players (except letting go Rod Woodson and oversigning Farrior)
Also, it's encouraging as a fan that our top payed players (both on offense and defense) have restructured deals to make these signings possible. Year after year we hear of holdouts from other teams, but we rarely, if ever, do we have that problem in Pittsburgh.

Re: Timmons signs 6 year deal
Kind of a weak deal for Timmy, compared to Big LaMarr's 6 years, $61M deal. Unlike Big LaMarr, Timmons RUNS sideline to sideline. Unlike Big LaMarr, Timmons actually COVERS passes, and is quite adroit. Unlike Big LaMarr, Timmons isn't prone to loafing and jogging and titty-jousting. Unlike Big LaMarr, Timmons is athletic, fast, and rangy. Unlike Big LaMarr, Timmons hasn't been lavished with meaningless praise for Dong Sacks and slop stops.
Well, at least we signed one ALL-AROUND linebacker.
To add more salt to the wound, this is DEJA VU for Colbert ! He lavished GilDong with HUGE $$, and got shit for production. Colbert finally cuts Gildon, and they inserted 2nd stringer Clark Haggans, who actually performed BETTER in an all-around manner.
Colbert should have seen thru the HYPE about Woodley, and saw the ground truth ---> You have a ONE dimensional LB who has ONE move -- a bullrush. Colbert lavishes him with $61M, as though he were trying to retain a 1-in-a-generation player like a Larry Bird, or a Derek Jeter, or a Sid Crosby.

Years from now I can imagine LT looking back and thinking---Mr. Rosenhaus negotiated the BEST contract for ME a linebacker could EVER want. I played in the PRIME of my football career with the Pittsburgh STEELERS!
Great deal.
Great deal.
