Plaxico Burress

Is it just me or does this idea sound retarded? We are 5 or 6 deep a WR already. This is BY FAR THE LAST position we should be pursuing in free agency. He wasn't that good the first time around. He has too many drops for my taste. Maybe prison resolved some maturity issues, but I doubt that it taught him how to elevate for the ball. I mean how many times did we have to watch his 6'5" ass get out-jumped for a ball by a 5'10" DB?

The only rationale I could see is that he is 6'5" and BR7 wants a tall receiver.

Or......Plax could have a season like Randy Moss did in '07, and we all know how that went......as long as it didn't end the same way. Still, I really doubt this situation will solidify.......like you said, we are heavily fortified at WR, unlike our OC who would just squander his talents as he did Randle-El's, and money could be spent elsewhere more wisely.

Although, it would be cool for a great number of fans who still have Plax jerseys......kinda like the fans who still had El jerseys last year.

Remember Super Bowl 45  The Steelers, who lost a receiver due to an injury, struggled to pass the ball much of the game.

This season Pittsburgh could suffer a similar struggle should a rash of injuries find the WR core, or last years rookies hit a sophomore slump. Hines Ward's vet savy can make a bunch of plays vs zone concepts, but he won't consistently beat man coverage. Wallace disappeared for stretches of last season (playoffs AFCDG, AFCCG). Sanders and Brown both show huge promise, but it would be much better not to completely throw those youngsters into the fire just yet. Plex's mere presence would instantly make all of those guys better. Sweed :!: Sweed could definitely get some favorable match ups with Burress on the field.

Last season taught us not to underestimate the NFL's value towards offense in its games. Roethlisberger is a smart quarterback. He would find ways of exploiting defenses with another weapon. If Plax wants to join the Stillers, I say sign him up.

Our receiving core is fine as long as Wallace stays healthy. Imagine if he tears an ACL. Then we have Ward who can't beat a 3rd-string corner man-to-man, Sanders who I'm not sold on, and Brown who had very little playing time sitting behind Randle El for 2/3rds of the year.
