FUCK.
Heyward is a great player. When he decides to play.
WE NEEDED A CB OR TWO WHO COULD START RIGHT AWAY.
and at least 1 olineman would could start.

Re: DRAFT TALK
Seriously - DE isn't even a huge need. Kiesel made his first pro bowl last year and Ziggy is young and improving, plus Smith is back from injury
I'm not saying Heyward sucks. He will be a good player for us, but not what we had to have this year.
Colbert needs to go.

Re: DRAFT TALK
and there goes Sherrod to GB, IMO the last OT that could reasonably be expected to start his rookie year.

Cam Heyward.
I like it. When he starts plugging rushing lanes, I'll it.

Re: DRAFT TALK
Cameron Heyward was absolutely the best value pick. He was a top 15 talent in this draft. Our need pick would have been Aaron Williams, but Heyward was definitely higher on my board. You couldn't pass on him at that spot. He's a much better 3-4 DE than Ziggy Hood ever was or probably will be. He does disappear at times but when he plays he looks absolutely dominant. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Smith to tell you the truth. Learning under Keisel and Smith, he'll surely be a force.
In the 2nd we have to trade up for Ras-I. Dowling is more of the prototypical Steeler DB and is very strong in run support. No doubt they're locked in snatching him up at this point. I wouldn't mind giving away a 3rd and 4th to jump up. We don't need more picks for depth. We need playmakers.

Re: DRAFT TALK
Disagree that Heyward is a value pick. 12th d-lineman selected, 7th DE.
projected by just about eveybody as a very late 1st or early 2nd round pick..
Examples:
kffl.com mock had him as 30th pick to jets.
our own Haven had him as 32nd pick to packers & ranked him 7th DE.
lindy's draft magazine gave him a 2nd round grade & ranked him 7th DE.
He is not a dominate run stopper. Watch the Wisconsin game. He is a good pass rusher when he decides to play.
Wrong pick.

Re: DRAFT TALK
6th best 3-4 DE but this was a very deep class for them. Aaron Williams is also projected to go early 2nd. The only team projected to take him in the first was us and only us. Dowling is a mid-2nd round pick and Brown is projected as a late. I really think we are going to trade up for Dowling later on today.

I mentioned a couple of weeks back my top tier and notice Heyward I really think this guy is the truth. He's a better 5 tech than Ziggy Hood and I think if he gets in rotation with Keisel mid-season, he'll keep our guys fresh. We can also afford to dump Nick Eason now who's ancient an UFA. Aaron Smith is in his last year on his contract as well. The probability of losing two DE's in the next two years and probably Keisel in 3 makes DE definitely a priority position.
