Polamalu

Postby jaeger » Mon Jan 24, 2011 11:49 am

I realize Polamalu's been quiet in the playoffs, but it's hard to make an impact when you're lined up 25 yards off the line. I guess it sort of made sense against NY but made zero sense against the Ravens, who have no pass plays in the playbook longer than 7 yards. The super deep safety crap was almost fatal in SB 43, was often fatal last year, and was nearly fatal again yesterday.

Dunno jaeger, it seems since they've had Troy playing deep, it's compressed the field for the opponent, making our coverage game more manageable. You don't see his flamboyant plays but it looks to me like its a stronger D.

On the long pass to Holmes vs. Jets, was one of the few times I saw Pola playing up. Clark just can't cover the same ground Troy can and when Ike slipped it was 6. Troy deep would have stopped that ball from even being thrown, maybe.

I think everyone has had to step up. I just don't think Troy is 100% yet. He is a decoy. They blitzed him a few times vs the Jets and he got picked up each time.

the way some people react on these boards, the best thing to do would be to release polamalu before the superbowl. that seems to be prevailing knee jerk reactions these days.
