What must Der Furhr be thinking now???

Postby bigjoespompano » Mon Jan 24, 2011 9:44 pm

Imagine having to work in the NFL offices these next two weeks! Herr Goodel must be FURIOUS! His striped shirted goons totally failed in their assignments! He could have had the #1 AND #3 television markets locked up with a Bears/Jets matchup! Think of the revenue that would have brought! The first and third largest cities in America and all that goes with them...gone. And what does he get ? Two of the SMALLEST markets in the entire league! And on top of that, his brown shirts FAILED in their attempt to keep Ben OUT of the big show! The media's gonna have a field day with this! The complete embarrassment he was so desperate to avoid gets laid right at his feet. And if we WIN??? Oh my God, he will have to present that trophy to the one person he prayed never to see! He must be sick to his stomach! SEIG HEIL YOU ASSHOLE!!!!! THE AMERICANS ARE ABOUT TO ENTER BERLIN!!!!!

Hate to point out the obvious, but just because Pittsburgh is a small market population-wise, does NOT mean that they have a small market football-wise. I imagine the Steelers are one of the (if not THE) most popular NFL teams in the league.

I'm no Goodell fan, but having the Steelers in a Super Bowl is ratings gold.

Right you are, Lifer. Stillers have the 2nd largest national following after the Cowboys (why?). Packers travel well, too. This will be billed as an "old school" super bowl.

My wife was in NYC for the Giants-Pats super bowl. She said you couldn't even tell the Giants were playing, the streets were full, nobody had colors on, nobody even talked abou it. And there are even fewer Jets fans in the area.

Perhaps NYC is too big of a market, then... too much other stuff to do so that football isn't a main focus.

(I may have been far more excited with that Giants SB win than the average New Yorker, being how much I hate the Patsies) :surockin:

I give major props to Green Bay. I respect the organization and the fans. I still consider GB to be the top championship winning team in the NFL, as I incorporate their wins before the merger.

I'm really stoked about this game! I just really hope they both play well. I'd much rather win or lose based on team quality and not who had more mistakes. If we didn't have such a habit of playing below our ability, I would feel much better about the match up.

It's not just fan base. It's population demographics that play into advertising ad revenue. Sponsors are MUCH more willing to pay higher rates of they can be guaranteed (assured) a large population demographic. A large 'following' is nice but that no set statistic. That's too amorphous. Sure, there might be a lot of Stiller faithful in San Diego (example) but do you think the REST of San Diego will be glued to their TV's?? Chicago? Philly? N.Y.?? Sure there will be Super Bowl Parties all over (It's damn near a national Holiday) but live in any Major Metro area and watch what happens when their team is playing in the Big show. It looks like some sort of old time Nuclear drill out there when the game is on. few cars and even fewer on the streets. The entire metro area disappears during the game. Guess where they went?Use your heads, folks. Buying Tee shirts is no assurance to an advertiser that the numbers will be there. We are too scattered. Any local, large metro area just doesn't care as much if it's not themselves being represented.

Did you see Goodell's comments after we were handed the Hunt trophy? He didn't look happy...

Moreover, the fact that the Big Ben is playing in the Super Bowl this year will shut up all the non-steelers fans who cry about games/refs being fixed to let the Steelers win. We know it is nonsense but it is fun to shut them up nonetheless. If anyone thinks Goodell wanted the suspensed cad of a QB to be playing in the big game is crazy. Not to mention the steelers faced difficult odds with the refs this season, but who is counting.

Just priceless that Goodell drops a story today that no steelers player came to the defense of Big Ben when he was investigating the Georgia incident. That petty play is a great example of how Goodell feels about it having #7 in the Super Bowl. How childish. Imagine dealing with him on labor negotiations with that type of intellect.

just in response to the post claiming that this Super Bowl was going to be some sort of ratings loss compared to a Chicago/NYJ match-up... I stand by my claim that big TV market doesn't equal big ratings in comparison to popular teams
