Matt Spaeth; Pre-Steelers

Postby Steelers76 » Thu Dec 23, 2010 6:49 am

Was this guy supposed to be a good pass-catching TE coming out of The University of Minnesota, or was he mostly regarded as a blocking TE? Anybody know?

Nothing more than a tall clumsy ox at both.

I watched the game again on NFL network last night. In Ben's voiceover, he basically said he was aiming for Sanders on the 2nd to last throw, who was wide open and all set to reel in the game winning TD when Spaeth busted it up. Then, it was an easy catch for Spaeth and he bobbled it. A double screw-up on the same play. If he'd have just stayed back to block we'd have won that game and Ben would have another game winning drive to his credit.

Why do we continue to see 2 sometimes 3 WR's occupying the same area on routes? It is hard to tell if it is Arians' play design or if the WR's are running the wrong routes when watching on TV. Can those of you fortunate enough to see the games live comment?
