If you were in charge....

Postby SoCal Stiller » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:04 pm

What personnel changes would you make right now with who we currently have available?

I'll start with the biggest change needed..... Key Fox to replace Farrior right now.
Secondly, at a minimum, I would split time between Worilds and Woodley - OR - move Woodley to DE.

I have several other thoughts but wanted to hear from yinz all on the matter first.

We are serioulsy handcuffed with personnel opportunities.

I wouldn't move Farrior out. He is not the best LB but he gets too much of a bad wrap on this site. Fox is nothing special and has never shown, nor had the opportunity to show any added skill.

I would get Gay out of the nickel. If he is the best we have we are in serious trouble. BTW, I hear Deshea Townsends name in a positive manner everytime I watch a Giants game. Back to the Steelers, Lewis or Butler have to be given time here.

I'm keeping Woodley at Linebacker. Maybe getting Worilds a little more time, particulalry when whe have that odd 1 man down dime defense.

I am deflated everytime we go with the "Melwede" series. I don't get it other than Mendy's shoulder may be ailing. But I would rather see Dwyer get some playing time. This is not a needed move but I hate seeing Dwyer getting no activity - I think he is better than Redman. Dwyer's career could simply escape him.

Completely agree about Dwyer, Moore, and Gay. However, I still believe that Key Fox is a significant upgrade over Farrior, especially where pass defense is concerned. Key saw decent playing time last season and he looked very good to me with the limited opportunities he was given. Also, I don't think there is much if any drop-off with Fox as it relates to stopping the run. The other guy that impresses me is Sylvester. I really like this kid's effort and intensity.

IMO, Ryan Clark has become a huge liability in the secondary. He lacks the closing speed and coverage ability we desperately need at safety. The problem is he is probably our best option there. I think McFadden would make a good safety with his skill sets, but then we are left with a gaping hole at CB.

The bottom line is we don't know what we have in our young players because they rot the bench. I believe it is very important to get those young guys in there for 3 reasons. First, it keeps your starters rested for the stretch run, especially when you consider the age of some of those guys. Second, it keeps your starters hungry when they think their job could be in jeopardy of being taken away by the younger guys. And finally, the young guys will be more prepared when their number is called.

Oh yeah, one last change is the most obvious. Arians needs to go and can be replaced by anyone with a pulse!

fire arians

bench randle el, he can not get separation for the life of him. sanders might not be the best route runner now, but at least he has a chance to win the 1on1 battles with the man defending him, el doesn't.
