Unfair CriticismJeff Reed

Postby NOVAStiller » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:16 pm

I know this will get everyone's ire up... but Reed is being unfairly criticized for his missed field goals so far this year. (Note to Mill: take it easy on him. :-) )

His 2 hooked long attempts this year have been due to bad placements by that waste-of-a-draft-pick Sepulveda! Review the replays and you'll see that both placements were held at an angle and not perfectly vertical as they should be. And he knows it because you can see him immediately bow his head after the kick knowing that it has no chance. Sepulveda is either getting a bad snap or he just needs to place the ball better!

On a good note, Reed's kickoffs are getting longer with a few in the endzone this year. I think he is still one of the best, most reliable, all around kickers in the league.

1-6 on field goals longer than 40 yards this season. he already cost us one game against the ravens this year and at least 3 last year with his weak kickoffs and his debacle in chicago. time to find a replacement asap.

i agree.

he can't make the kicks at heinz field any better than the opposition. worse actually.

51 yarder in an INDOOR stadium is very makeable. His kickoffs are worse than some high school kickers I've seen

he's been performing below NFL standards, period. He is not getting a new contract

I suppose the 90% of his kickoffs that are either on a line or fall short are someone else’s fault as well. :suahhbs:

With Skippy's off field antics and poor play last year he should have never been brought back. Sure he's alittle better on kick offs but not great. Time has come find a new kicker it is only going to get worse from here.

Just trying to point out that he is still one of the best out there and that the problem might lie with the holder/spotter (aka Sepulveda)... since no other NFL kicker kicks well at Heinz it will be difficult finding someone better.

As of this week he is listed as 8th in the AFC (not bad) and don't forget 2 of those 40 and 50+ attempts barely missed (bouncing off the goal post).

It's easy to jump on the bandwagon here and criticize Skippy, but Sepulveda is letting him down.

My comment is not on the quote above but the knobgobblin comment needed repeating in any event.

My real comment is to the post above - Reed is no longer one of the best kickers - he ranks 29th with his 70% make rate. An his five misses are not compensatory losses but game changers (breakers). I do like his kickoff distance increase as it likely has saved us 3 straight weeks of opponents returning them for TDs. He jumped from 3% to 14% T-back rate but still ranks 20th as a team stat.

Every player diminishes at some point. And Reed appears to have already crested the hill.

Honestly I think we could use one less d-bag on this team, even if it is the kicker. Money reed is no longer money. Buh bye jeffy poo

I haven't looked at any replays but all field goal holds are off vertical. The ball is always held leaning slightly back and slightly to the left. I think you are blindly blaming Sepulveda. Take a look at the way the ball is teed up on kickoffs alone.
