Mill, Nice work getting your post up promptly. I thought Woodley played better than you indicate but otherwise more or less concur with your account. Poor game by Ben R, few if any third down stops by the defense, very ineffective and reactive coaching decisions by Tomlin (e.g. the challenge in the first half on what clearly was not a fumble, sending Reed in to try a FG near the end of the first half - though the snap apparently was poor, resulting in the miss; recall that Tomlin didn't make any challenges last week and didn't send Reed out as time expired against the Dolphins), no QB sneak on the first and goal in the first half despite Pouncey at center. The Steelers actually are on thin ice - the secondary is ineffective and the offensive line is erratic. If these weaknesses remind you of last year's team, they should.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
Looks to me like the mid-season regression we had last year is getting started earlier, that could have been the 2nd loss in a row to middling teams if not for the refs blown call last week.
I am finally on board with the calling out of the coaching. We ALWAYS give up points in the 2-minute drill. We can't get pressure on the QB for shit. Last week they can run a QB draw from the 4-yard line, this week they can't run a QB sneak from the 1-inch line. And they call for a review when then they shouldn't, and don't when they should (7 point swing) and send skippy out for a FG that is out of his range (he's less than 50% from 50yds+) that's inside 2 mins so of course the Saints can tack on 3 points (3 point swing). Combine those two poor decisions and you have the loss difference.
Of course the Steelers won't can anybody.

Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
A stat was given after the game last night - Brees had the most completions against the Steelers defense since Rich Gannon in 02. That stat is important because Gannon exposed our secondary to everyone in that game and we were beat all season with the pass including 463 by michael vick and 350+ by Kelly Holcomb in the wildcard game. Not that we weren't exposed already this season but this is a sign of things to come. I am already fearing the New England game. And defensive coaching is not the issue here. I don't understand the constant strikes at lebeau given there are physical and mental errors all over the field which are costing us points. Poor play by the secondary last night - including some bad decisions by Polamalu and the second of two late TDs given up by McFadden this season. Although no one is stopping that strike Brees threw to Moore to seal the game.
the mix of blitz and no blitz worked for the entire first half. How can it suddenly be Lebeau's fault that it doesn't work the second half. Heck, Lebeaus defensive call playing in the second half produced the turnover that should have turned the tide (Mcfaddens forced fumble). It is the players who are to fault. Our pass rush is not consistent enough to send the house every single play.

Arians - sucks balls! Enough is enough.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
Right on MILL!! Check my game thread posts and you will see that as the game progresses I and most of the other attendees were grousing the exact same points
1. FIRE ARIANS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. ARE is very average and NOT worthy of the 3rd receiver. Hey, ARE is a good man to have on the roster, but he is NOT the 3rd receiver. What the fUCK IS THIS? tHE 2005 SUPERBOWL GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB?
3. Ben needs to get rid of the ball every once in a while. WTF!!
4. Along with FIRE ARIANS what is this with our receivers not reading the hots?
5. OL is FUCKING AWFUL in their adjustments. We could see them overloading the left side all night and we did NOTHING ABOUT IT! FIRE ARIANS!!!!!!!!!!!
6. 305 MFING YARDS! That is how many passing yards our softee defense gave up. They rarely touched the ball, opting instead to tackle after the catch. We need to be defending BALLS
7. Ziggy Hood is not progressing. I watched him run himslef out of plays countless. then I watched him get tooled many times.
8. William Gay BLOWS!!
I think Mill is wrong about Woodley. I watched him close and he pressures the QB more than ANY other rusher, at least equal with Harrison.
I have said this before. Something is wrong in Troyville. he is not at all himself. What happened to his closing speed?

Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
One of the worst coached games I can remember in recent years! Why in the hell did Dick not send pressure up the middle when you're playing the shortest QB in the league? The one time we brought Timmons up the middle there was great pressure and a solid hit on the Brees. When you're playing a shorter QB, why don't you mix it up and send Jamie or Timmy up the middle once in a while? It's not like Farrior is actually going to get to him.
Arians sucks monkey balls! First and inches at the goal line and I'm thinking quick count QB sneak behind Pouncey, right? I mean, we only have the biggest fucking QB in the NFL. To my horror, I see this slow developing counter run and I knew we were fucked. What a dumbass I was to not see that coming. Everyone knew that the Saints were short-handed in the secondary, except for Dumbfuk Arians. I was expecting to see Ben throw deep all day reminiscent of the '05 playoff run to the Bowl, then chew clock away later in the game. The Saints have one of the Quickest front sevens, so Dumbfuk plays right into their hands with 90% of the plays within 5 yards of the LOS. And if I see one more of those stupid assed reverses, or fake reverses, I'm going to vomit in a bag then mail it to the son-of-a-bitch!

Exactly! What gos on inside Arians brain? He obviously cannot prepare for a game let alone diagnose problems as they occur. This fascination with running around in the Offensive backfield instead of quick hitting is FUCKED!!
Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
One other thing. The Post gazette writers just dont get this point. They all oohed and aahed over the Saints paltry 32 yeards rushing against us last night. What they dont realize is that the Saints do not even pretend to establish true hand offs. They opt instead to use little drop passes as their running game. Taken in that context they GASHED US!

Tom Brady will be licking his chops after reviewing this tape...
The coaches should all be salt-paddled after this unnecessary loss.

Any three drunks at any bar in the country could come up with a better game plan than Arians. The only real idiot is the head coach that continues to keep this bum on his staff. I said it last year and I will say it again if this season goes down in flames Tomlin needs fired. I know I will get jumped on for saying it, but he is the one keeping this OC around.

Mill, I understand your anger, and most of it is justified, but your calling out the DC is insane. We held them to 30 yards rushing! 30 fucking yards! The front seven did their job, and then some. The Steelers need better secondary play, but that's not Dick's fault, dude. That's a front office issue that needs addressed in the off-season. We didn't win last night because our offense couldn't run the ball, plain and simple. Breez needed to be left on the sideline last night, but our offense failed for three fourths of that game. Don't blame the DC for that.
As for saying that Miller is used as "that clod Bruener", what the fuck is wrong with that? That guy was one of the best blocking TE's in the history of football. He was a human road grader, and Miller would be lucky if he could block half as good as Mark did. There is nothing wrong with having your TE fire off the line and move bodies around, even though you seem to think all he should do is be a poor man's wide-receiver.

Uh, sorry, Timmay. Bragging about "only allowing 30 yards rushing" is irrelevant. The Saints were down to their THIRD string RB and didn't even TRY to run.
Pgh Heaven asutely ALREADY noted, ABOVE, in this thread: "One other thing. The Post gazette writers just dont get this point. They all oohed and aahed over the Saints paltry 32 yeards rushing against us last night. What they dont realize is that the Saints do not even pretend to establish true hand offs. They opt instead to use little drop passes as their running game. Taken in that context they GASHED US!" Yes indeed. Opponents are simply ABANDONING the ground game and taking CANDY FROM A BABY against a defense that sucks ass against the pass.
And as Geno Collier astutely wrote this AM in the PG--
"from where Brees began a clinching drive against a defense that, for all its decorated merits at stopping the run, is allowing an unacceptable rate of pass completions. When the game started, opponents were hitting on 66 percent of their passes. By the time Brees found Moore with a 9-yard touchdown pass over the outstretched arm of Timmons, he had completed 34 of 44, or 77 percent.
There's no point in making the opponent one-dimensional if that one dimension is lethal."
The front 7 did NOT do their job. The pass harassment was MINUTE and feeble, and they failed to make good, FAST stops on little dumpoffs.
As for Miller, you MISSED the entire point. Miller is a fine blocker. Unlike Breuner, he is ALSO a TERRIFIC, OUTSTANDING, ATHLETIC RECEIVER. Do you understand this ?????? Hello ? They guy caught 76 passes last season, and with Holmes gone, Miller SHOULD be THE security blanket for this team's QBs. He has a piddly-assed 17 catches this season, which is a pace to finish with 38, which is HALF of last year's output. Fuk Bruce Arians and fuk anyone who supports the pile of shit.
Lastly, we thought you ran away ages ago? What brought ya back?

Another right on analysis Mill. Brady will destroy us. This team has a lot of weakness. The Saints
intimidated the might Steelers. It was embarrassing to watch.

I was thinking the same for Bill Belichick. Anyone remember the game a few years back when they ran exactly 4 running plays and instead passed 56 times? The difference is that Belichick had a huge hard-on for exposing Cowher as a complete imbecile. I am not sure that he has the same hatred for Tomlin.
Bruce Arians is a blood clot. The sooner he is removed, the healthier our offense will be. WTF is his sudden obsession with WR bubble screens? We have seen a dozen or more in the last 2 games and they all sucked ass. He has no ability whatsoever to make even the slightest in-game adjustment. FIRE ARIANS!!!!!!

Re: New Article: Stillers-Saints Postgame Analysis and Grades
I think it's time for Dick to tweak the defensive philosophy some. I like the zone blitz, but he is not allowing our DB's to man up on their receiver. It doesn't do any damn good to run a "bend but not break" defense when it continues to break at the end of games. These guys need to be up on the LOS in the receiver's face much more than they have been! I think Fad & Ike are both above average cover guys, but we as Stiller fans wouldn't know it because they're always back-peddling into a softee zone. Now, I'm not saying to go full time man-to-man like the Jets cause that shit is going to burn the Jets in the end because they do it too much. But I think it needs to be mixed into our 'D' much much more. Also, you put your guys in a better pre-snap alignment because you add another potential blitzer off the edge near the LOS. McFadden got to Brees the one time they sent a corner blitz, then poof that was the end of that! WTF? Dick better be prepared because the whole league is on to his cushion defense and he better adapt if the Stillers are to survive. What the hell happened to the aggressiveness? I would rather get burned sending the house and knocking the QB on his ass than sit back in a pussified softee zone and get toasted anyway!
BTW - Arians swallows monkey balls! I'm out of words for this guy!

I hate to think past the Bungles but the talk about brady on this post made want to share what I heard a few minutes ago on NFL Sirius. The Pattycakes are avg 4.7 and 5.5 yards when rushing or passing on first down. They follow this with the highest 2nd down conversion to 1st down in the NFL. Now that is game management.
The steelers have had a decade long problem with stopping the shotgun draw to the RB- something the pats do very well with any RB inserted in there. Recipe for disaster.
