What will you tell your Grand kids about Ben?...

Postby bigjoespompano » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:21 am

Assuming your Grandkids are far into the future, how will you deal with the subject of "That QB named Ben?.." What are you going to tell your Grand son when he asks "Gran Pap, Tell me about this guy in the Steeler history book."
Will you regale him with heroic tales of Super Bowl victories and other memorable plays on the field or will you simply avoid the subject and steer the little tyke to some other player you saw in Steeler history?

I would just simply tell them that he was a great clutch HOF quarterback who went through a period of time where he acted irresponsibly and needed to grow up. I would also teach them to be as successful as they can be in life; but caution them that less fortunate people will continuously try and take advantage of your wealth and success. It is important for children to know that there is always a lesson to be learned around every corner in life.

I wouldnt worry too much about kids down the road. By that time (if ben keeps his nose clean) this will all be much forgotten. I say forgotten because like i said if he keeps his nose clean then he will have proven that he made a mistake and became a better person and man. Lets not forget we still have not heard his side of the story. There is always 2 sides to every story ALWAYS. What i would worry about is how a man is handling telling his son who right now is old enough to know what he is hearing but not old enough to understand. That is the difficault situation to me. I am sure many of you out there are PERFECT.....but unfortunately i am not. So what i tell my son is to worry about the decisions YOU make. Dont glorify the player gloryify the game. Lets be honest the only thing that has been proven ben has made bad choices in situations he has put himself in. And in my opinion immaturity

well i definately think he is the best steeler qb ever................and i also believe that he is one of the best clutch qb's, at least that i have seen ever. But i have to ask firebrucearians. If your grandson, like the question asks. Comes to you and says, grandpa what do you think about ben? I heard he did alot of bad things? Will your answer still be...........He was the greatest steeler qb ever?

That would be my response.

Look, at some point in the last twenty or thirty years, the vast majority of the public have this media-created belief that athletes should be "role models" and perfect citizens. If they get caught doing stupid shit everyone collectively gasps and starts saying "how could he do that?" and "what will I tell my children?" Bottom line is who gives a shit? He's a football player! Do not look to Ben to be some moral compass for your children. Cheer for athletes based on what they do on the field and that's it. I have already explained and shown my son the proper way to act and treat other people. Parents and family members need to be their own kid's role models, period!

well considering by the time i have grandchildren it will prolly be like 25-30 years from now, what ben does now might not ever be talked about at that time. A lot of terry's failed marriages and partying i've never heard about until just recently because it's never been talked about until the whole situation with ben

sure i could tell my grandkids about how ben made some bad choices but unless asked about it directly, why bring it up? some things are better off not talked about, especially to 8 year old kids who are just watching the game asking about a certain player. like when I was that age, I asked about how good jack lambert was, and got an answer, not his entire life story, i'll give the same type of answer I got, about what they did on the football field

Like many other posters on this site have said, Bradshaw was basically guilty of doing the same stuff BR7 did, but hardly anyone remembers that since time has faded memories or witnesses forget etc etc. Do you think that young kids realize/know the stuff Bradshaw did to women in the past? 'nuff said.
