Lets talk Timmons
I dont remember the last time we picked a linebacker in the first round. But I do remember the long lineage of great inside linebackers we've had since the Cowher era.
I remember guys like Hardy Nickerson, Chad Brown, Levon Kirkland, even guys like Earl Holmes, Kendrell Bell.
But I honestly don't ever remember use taking someone coveted that highly in the draft for a long time.
I thought last year would be the year Timmons really peaked, but it necessarily wasn't.
This year, so far, it seems like he's really coming into his own. James Farrior talks about how Timmons is peaking. How he's like a Troy Polamalu playing at linebacker in terms of his speed on closing in on the ball.
I didn't believe it until I saw what he's done so far this year. Wow has he reached a new level of play.
Last week, he had 3 solo tackles on Michael Turner behind the line of scrimmage. This week, as we all saw several times, he played a big role in shutting down another one of the league's premiere running backs.
I haven't seen inside 'backer play like this in a long time from the Steelers. If he keeps this up he deserves to go to the Pro Bowl.
It really seems like the stars are aligning for us on defense. Between a rising Timmons, healthy Polamlu and Aaron Smith, the return of McFadden, etc etc...

Re: Lets talk Timmons
timmons' play has been crazy, if he can stay healthy the entire season he's definitely on his way to the pro bowl. this might be a better defensive squad than the 2008 team with the addition of this monster and woodley with a few more years under his belt

Re: Lets talk Timmons
Timmons is unleashed. He is literally all over the field and will easily be a shoe-in for the Pro Bowl with the way he's playing. It'll be interesting if Harrison, Woodley and Timmons make up the whole AFC Pro-Bowl linebacking core with Troy at SS.

I think it's safe to say this is one of the best linebacking groups we've had since the mid 90's.

Re: Lets talk Timmons
I'm loving the linebacking so far this season.
Timmons, who has finally learned LeBeau's systen and is no longer hampered by the ankle injuries from last year, is playing like an absolute beast. I love his demeanor: You don't really see him showboating, and news articles paint him as this silent, all-business dude. He hits and wraps up, textbook style. He brings the heat, and when he hits guys, things happen like fumbles. His speed is fantastic. How about getting the angle on Chris Johnson on the goaline sweep and bringing him down short? That was incredible.
Now that Timmons is playing at the level the coaching staff thought he could when they drafted him, this defense is full of playmakers. Just throw him in there with Troy, Silverback and Woodley. It might not end up being as dominating as 2008, but there is surely more playmaking ability.

Re: Lets talk Timmons
The fact that Harrison has 2 sacks & 2 forced fumbles & Woodley had an INT & at least a 1/2 sack in the last 10 gms, and STILL all the airwavers are talking about Timmons' monster play, is amazing.
Tunch & Wolf were saying today that they reviewed the tape over the last 2 wks & have noted that Aaron Smith has literally been unblockable - a key to the LBs unreal success so far.
Lets keep it up boys - and don't forget to have the DB's hold onto INT's when they get the chance (like BMac did last wk)!!
