Too often, I think, this run down sees the glass as half full. On defense, this team is old and lacks speed. The return of Polamalu makes an enormous difference, to be sure, but he doesn't add speed - the corners still appear to be vulnerable. On offense, the line appears to be mediocre and the loss of Holmes hurts. Mendenhall, if he stays healthy, will rush for 1,000 yards, but the line is still suspect when it comes to rushing the ball at key times (3rd and short, 4th quarter). I am a huge Mike Wallace fan and he will do well as a second receiver. But after him and Ward - who also is old - there is quite a drop-off.
This is a critical year for Tomlin. The Super Bowl win was offset by last year's collapse, and now he has to deal with real challenges on the field (see above, as well as Ben R's absence) while restoring discpline off the field. Anything can happen this year, especially because the AFC seems weak and the Steelers have a decent schedule. For now, I feel like a Boston Red Sox fan circa 1977 - hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

I agree with you that the return of McFadden is huge. If we can cover somebody and allow our LB's to get after the QB the way they are capable of late in the game then you don't have to worry about those 4th quarter collapses that we saw too often last year.
As far as Dennis Dixon goes, I hope somebody really sat him down this week and told him exactly what this team needs from him. We need him to be our Trent Dilfer for 4 weeks...Don't turn the ball over, make the safe plays, and in his case if nothing is there tuck it and run. IMO come out of this 2-2 and we are good to go.
