coach Mike Tomlin said QB Ben Roethlisberger is not guaranteed the starting job when he returns from his four-game suspension, according to USA Today's Sean Leahy. Tomlin said QB Dennis Dixon can earn more starts if he plays well early in the season.

Ugh.

I don't believe he said Dixon can earn more starts. Tomlin simply dodged the question - yes it is true that he never said Ben is the true starter in week 6 but the press is loving the little twist they can put on this. Read his comments closer.

"I'm going to dodge that one and not artfully," Tomlin said on Sirius NFL Radio when asked about Roethlisberger's place as the starter. "I'm not going to back myself in corner."

To me this is the best answer. Always remember, one game at a time.

Come on guys, quit being so gullible and feeding the media idiots like Florio. They're not going to sit a guy earning a rate of $100 million in favor of Dennis Dixon, a QB who has horrible throwing mechanics, limits the playbook and can't read defenses. This holds true no matter how well he plays. This is basically Tomlin at his finest. Not telling the media anything and taking a wait and see approach. What's likely to play out? At 2:30 PM on Sunday, Tomlin will be crying, "when does Ben come back?"

Don't you think it depends on how the team is doing when BR7 returns?

Should they be 4-0, I think Ben will be sitting until they lose (or the QB is gets hurt).
Should they be 0-4, I think Ben will take the first snaps in game 5.

Tomlin will call it based on the wins trend (if there is one) and who looks better in practice the week before. So yeah, probably ben, but I'm not gonna write off the first 4 games yet.

Ben looked sharp in camp he will be the starter even if Dix goes 4-0.

I am basing my thought that DD might get to play more than 4 games on a belief that ownership would rather be rid of BR7 if they could. It must gall them no end to hear a Steeler Icon like Bradshaw say publicy that Ben should be gone, and full Sports Illustrated articles on what a dick he is. I am not buying the rehabilitation of BR7 just yet.

I'm trying to think of how many Colts seasons were impacted by Peyton Manning's offseason bad acting. Can't think of any, yet BR7 has impacted three seasons. Two of those were post-super bowl seasons where the team didn't even make the playoffs. Third one is now.

The Cowboys dynasty in the 90's was sparked by trading a franchise player, Herschel Walker, for multiple draft picks. Maybe they have something like that in mind for a BR7 they want to be rid of.

Give it up. They're not getting rid of Ben. Your golden child Dixon is only playing at all because of the suspension and Leftwich's injury. Trading Ben will only insure no winning and no world championships, or have you forgotten who our qb was for rings six and seven.
