Batch or Dixon: who goes?
QB Charlie Batch has performed well in limited opportunities this offseason, but he could be the odd man out in earning a spot on the final roster, reports Mark Kaboly, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Batch has not take a single snap with the second team or first team during training camp, and he has only taken 17 snaps in three preseason games. However, the team will need to cut 22 players by the weekend and may decide to keep a younger player over Batch.
Am I the only one that would trade both of them for Matt Leinart?

Re: Batch or Dixon: who goes?
So you'd get rid of lets say.. Dixon who has been in our system the past couple of years, who has gotten split reps with the first team this whole off-season, as well as some time this pre-season (who also started a game) and risk bringing in a bone-head, West Coast quarterback who is now labeled a bust to come in and backup Leftwhich for the start of the season? If something would happen to Leftwhich, you are seriously comfortable with a young moron coming in, who doesn't know the playbook and has no clue about our personal over someone who has been getting rep time the past 2 seasons, let alone the past 3 pre-season games under center? You are ballsy my friend.. ballsy.
No way, no how I trade either for Leinart. I think I might be the ONLY one that thinks getting rid of Batch would be a mistake. Too bad the writing is on the wall for good 'ol Chuck.

No way, Leinart sucks. I'd rather have Kitna.

Leinart sucks.
Even his own teammates have ZERO faith in that guy.

Im thinking they keep 4 QBs until Ben is back anyway... So, we may not really know until the 5th week of the year.

That's the question: Does Ben count against the 53 man roster while suspended? If not, Chaz stays through week 4 then gracefully assumes a front-office position when Ben returns.

Re: Batch or Dixon: who goes?
The QB situation was completely mishandled by Tomlin. Dixon gets zero snaps with the 1st team until the week before the 3rd preseason game then everyone expects him to perform well! Just like last year, he finds out the day before the Baltimore game that he is starting with little or no practice time throughout the week. Do not underestimate the importance of getting reps and building chemistry with the guys you are on the field with. Had he been given the same opportunities as Leftwich from the start of camp, I think you would have seen a different player out there. Everyone judges him after just 1 game while Leftwich has stunk it up every time he is out there and Leftwich had been given all the practice time up until that week! Considering our O-line, I still think he gives us the best chance to win the 1st 4 weeks, but we'll never know because it has not been a fair "QB competition". Competition my ass! Mark my words, Leftwich will spend more time on his back than a Tijuana ho.
Also, it would help a lot if dumbfuk Arians had a clue on how to design & call plays that best utilize Dixon's abilities.

Well SoCal, Dixon it is. Lefty is out. Hey, it could have ben Ben (if there is a silver lining). I disagree w/ Tomlin mismanaging the QB thing. You are forgetting the concussion-concerned climate surrounding that game. If you read between the lines you could tell that the decision to sit a QB who had passed concussion tests came from NFL brass last minute. This was all before they commisioned their concussion panel. Hines Ward wasn't even in the loop on that one.
That said, I agree. Dixon takes us to 3-1 before Ben gets back.

Roethlisberger won't count against 53 man roster during his suspension. And now with Leftwich possibly injured, they have to keep Batch. I think the should keep Batch anyway, through the first four games at least.

I was referring to only this year's QB "competition" regarding Tomlin's mishandling the situation. I understand & agree with you on the dynamics of the B'more game from last season. I was assimilating Dixon's lack of work with the 1st unit in camp to his performance then. I'm just saying he needs more time with the starters before we can judge him.
Here we are now with Dixon starting with much less preparation than what he would have had if it were truly a QB competition from the start.
