Ryan Clark contract negotiations update

Postby thesteelhammer » Thu Feb 25, 2010 4:32 pm

The official story is:
Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, report Pittsburgh Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said impending free-agent FS Ryan Clark remains a priority and believes a contract will get done.

Believe.

Real question is if that's actually a good thing.

I love Clark's willingness to put his body on the line, his penchant for big hits, and run support at the line, but hate his lack of coverage abilities and inability to make an open field tackle.

I think he's good enough if Troy's playing and he can stick to what he's good at.

I'd just hate to see us overpay him, have Troy go down, and suddenly be screwed in the secondary again.

No hands, average speed, late-hit tendencies, etc. I don't know why the Stillers are so enamored w/ Clark other than the fact that Troy likes him.

Pay him the probable rate of $4-5mill+ per yr & you have $12+m tied up in your starting Safeties, alone.

Just because loud-mouth Anthony Smith didn't work out doesn't mean another young Safety couldn't

I was listening to Myron Rolle on Mike&Mike yesterday - that kid sure sounds smart enough to pick up Lebeaus defense & probly will be available in the 2nd round. Then again, Lebeau would bench-rot Ndamukong Su in his first yr!!!
