Steelers Draft Sleepers
It's time to start looking at draft prospects. Everyone knows the big names but if you hear about a sleeper who you think would look good in black and gold. My first is Mike Iupati G-Idaho. If we want the run game back, it's got to start w/ players like this.

Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
Walter McFadden - younger brother of Bryant McFadden
This kid is a quality CB from Auburn who turned in a spectacular Outback bowl. His stat line - 9 tackles, 2 INTS, and 2 PDs. He returned 1 of the picks for a 100 yard TD. We desperately need DBs who can catch. Since his big bro played here, we know he comes from a good family, so it is a low risk pick. Could be a steal of a 6th or 7th rounder.

Earl Thomas as Safety from Texas - 3rd ranked S + had 8 picks. We need ballhawks not friggin bumbling idiots like Taylor & Gay. Won't have to pay Cryan Clark $$ he doesn't deserve. This guy may be there in Rd 2.
Kyle Wilson CB from Boise State - 4 yr starter + had 8 pix last 2 yrs. Tuff, physical run support+ ball hawk. Once again, someone who can actually pick the ball up in mid-flight. Unlike compass-seeking pinheads Taylor & Gay. Should be there Rd 2-3.
D'Anthony Smith from La Tech - Bradshaw's alma mater. 330 DT who at 6'2 could add some more bulk. Runs 4.9 dash. 4 yr starter who could play end in 4-3 or eventually backup at Nose. S/b available in Rd 4-6.

I really like this Kyle Wilson kid too.
Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
I think Jared Odrick would be a good fit too. He may be a little raw but he could learn behind Keisel and Smith for a year or two.

Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
I thought the title said "Sleepers".........you guys are picking 1st rd guys.
Here's a few real sleepers I like:
LaMarcus Coker - RB, Hampton, 5'10", 205lbs, 4.39 - Was a starter at Tenn. as a freshman but got kicked off team for smoking the weed. Cleaned himself up at Hampton and had 3 good yrs. A replacement for WP? Should go undrafted.
Blake Ferras - DE(in 3-4), Oregon, 6'6", 290lbs, - He caught my eye in the Rose Bowl where he was playing DT in the 4-3. Looked strong and quick......chased Pryor around and down on a scramble. A 2 yr project to replace A. Smith. Should go undrafted.
Kevin Haslam - RT, Rutgers, 6'5", 305lbs, 5.27 - Saw him against WVU and their bowl game......he looked strong and has smooth feet. Would likely be playing LT if not for super stud Anthony Davis(a top10 pick) being there. Easily 3 times better than Tony Hills and twice as good as Trai Essex. Should be available in rd. 6.
Hey, I also like Kyle Wilson (CB)........he plays aggressive and will actually tackle.

Nice one. You are right, I need to step it up if I am going to name this thread "Draft Sleepers".
Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah IUP
Early Draft Profile
Skinny: His size (6’1, 200) and speed have made him a tough shut down cover corner shown by just 14 tackles but eight picks and 10 breakups as a junior. His ability in the return game just enhances his grade and could make him a sleeper to watch this year. His speed (4.4) makes him an elite physical specimen and could be a mid round type selection.

Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
I think Dan Williams is our man (IF HE'S AVAILABLE) 6'5 330 he can collapse the pocket and he's quick off the snap. We need more youth in the D-Line and I think this guy could be a disruptive force for us at DE.

Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
Neither Odrick nor Iupati are "sleepers."
That being said, I hate PSU with the intensity of 1000 burning suns, but Odrick is a STUD. He would be a great 3-4 DE and I'd love to see the Steelers take him if he's there.
Hard to tell whether DB, OL or DL will be the priority, but I'm sure as usual they'll take the best athlete available.

Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
I haven't seen anyone mention Brian Price out of UCLA. The kid will be a star. HE was one of the few bright spots for UCLA, but he commaned double teams and still caused havoc.
Re: Steelers Draft Sleepers
The kid from IUP - how'd he get from Columbus, OH (hometown) to IUP without being noticed by OSU or the other big schools in Ohio. Not a big fan of small school CB's..........Ricardo Coclough anyone?!?!?
Dan Williams of Tenn. is 6'2" 330lbs and a NT not a DE. My concern would be that he is from Memphis and that place could easily ruin a kid with some $$$.
Price from UCLA is like 6'1" 300lbs. which would make him a 4-3 DT not a good fit for the 3-4.
I got a SLEEPER from Toledo.......Stephen Williams - WR - 6'5" - 200lbs - 4.50
He had 229 catches as a 3 yr starter and 21 TD's. I was looking on Youtube for some highlights of Toledo, SS, Barry Church and this kid was flashing all over the one video. Likely to go 7th rd. or UFA..........could either push Sweed or replace him.

Funny, but I think you mean OVER-HATED, don't you?
Anyways, nice sleeper picks except Angerer's ability to cover concerns me a little.

4.50 now will be 4.7 or worse at the combine...too slow. Sounds like Oronde Gadsden Pt. Deux
Actually, Hines Ward is about that fast and I'll take what Hines brings all day.

I know he's smaller than Hampton, but I don't think you have to have a 400 lb. guy that can't move in there ala the big snack. If all you want is a space eater you should be able to get one of those on the second day. Come to think of it, that may not be a bad idea for an interior lineman in the 3-4. Why waste a pick on someone to just hold their ground and keep people off the LB?
