I've a real problem w/ them signing Clark, who'll probly get in the$4-6m range. W/ Troy at around $7m per, that is way too much $$ tied up at Safety.

As far as Hampton is concerned, they're gonna find themselves in another Farrior-type situation if they sign him.

They should franchise-tag his ass & let him walk in 2011. He's too goddamn old & fat to sign for more than 2 yrs.

There are good enough Safeties in the first 2 rds to select & they can find a plugger at NT in Rds 30-5.

A weight/fitness clause in his contract would help mitigate some of that risk.

IT seems like the real problem is an extreme lack of depth unlike the Steelers of the past would have. Poor drafting in later rounds and overall poor planning is the main reason why the Steelers must sign both if they want to compete for a title next year. Which, by the way, could be the last full year before a new COB and perhaps a lock-out. So, with that in mind, the Steelers should do what they can to maximize a shot a championship next year.

I'm with Stillgrill. We are slotted at 18, 36, 54, etc.
Certainly good stuff around for a safety.

Wht about Keenn Lewis rafted as safet/CB? OH yeah, I forgot,... he would not get much PT (if any at all) due to "rookie" status in Steeler coaching circles.

Anyone know anything about him? How he did fare in drills and with the PT that he DID get? I thought I read where he was highly regarded after the spring camps and going into summer camp.

There's some good NTs out there. That kid from Bama looks to be a force. He's 6' 4'' 350 lbs. He could be sitting at the 18th spot in the draft. I've read the Corner pool is very good this year too. I wouldn't sign Hampton for more than 2 years. As for Clark, I think we need to find his replacement through FA. If they signed Casey to a long term deal, based on what he did for the Franchise(his words), then they didn't learn a thing from wasting all that money on Farrior.

I could live with franchising Big Snack or giving him a final 2 year deal of some kind, but nothing beyond that. Clark is garbage, whose inferior play isn't offset enough by intimidation through dirty play. Ultimately I'd let Hampton and Clark walk and re-sign Carter. None of them are must-keep guys.
