Any chance this will happen?

Postby NJSteel27 » Mon Jan 18, 2010 4:38 pm

Any chance the Steelers will make a package deal, either for players or draft picks, very similar to the one done when Jerome Bettis was brought here?

If Willie Parker isn't staying, could he be included in the package, with:
Limas Sweed, William Gay, James Farrior, Tyrone Carter, (I hate to say) Lawrence Timmons?

If the Steelers had the #1 overall pick, who do you think they'd go get?

It's very uncommon that the Steelers trade. Blockbuster trades in the NFL aren't very common but even less likely w/ the Steelers. Plus we don't need a number one overall pick. They tend to be VERY expensive and usually not a good return on the investment. Ryan Leaf is one example of many.

The things I read on this board really just make me shake my head sometimes.

First of all, Parker's contract is up in like 2 months. So unless there's a team that's got some games coming up in February, I don't think you're gonna find a whole lot of interest there.

Secondly, Farrior's contract is a small king's ransom. No one would be willing to take him on with the contract he has. Especially after the season he had this year (and him admitting maybe he's 'lost a step').

Thirdly, why would anyone want Carter, Sweed, or Gay when we don't?

Fourthly, why would you trade Timmons? What kind of player are you hoping to get here? A QB? We already have one. A RB? We already have one. A WR? Our receivers are fine. I would trade him for someone like Asomugha, but he's out of our price range. Or Revis, but the Jets would never go for that.

If the Steelers had the #1 overall pick, I'd hope they'd trade the shit out of it. None of these top 10 picks are worth the money when you consider they typically don't produce shit for the first 3 years.

NJSteel, it can be fun to speculate but in all honesty none of the players you mentioned have a high trade value except for Timmons and the Steelers would not trade him unless another team made a stupidly stupid offer. We build our football teams through the draft and Gay, Sweed, and Timmons are still developing.

To from #18 to 1 would require a LOT. You'd have to trade away that 18th pick and probably a whole lot more to get Suh. Plus you'd have to pay him a massive contract. No doubt he's a quality player but unless you were truly desperate it wouldn't make sense to give up what the holder of the top pick would want for it. Picking at 18, we'll get a very good player that we won't have to spend anywhere near as much on.

It's probably a moot point, because he'll be gone way before the Steelers choose, but I'd love to see them get Suh. But not if it means they gotta give him a guaranteed $50M.

Remember, Brian Bosworth was a 'beast' too. Just sayin....

I think you can make that trade happen in Madden 10. Good luck!

From one greenhorned rookie to another, keep your editorial comments to yourself, pal. This newsgroup isn't rocket science, nor are any of us getting paid for our time, so, lighten up, take the stick out of your noble ass and have some fun.........or would you like all the grizzled veterans (and greenhorned rookies alike) to analyze every single keystroke you make and render their own nonsensical comments?

From one greenhorned rookie to another, suck my balls, pal.

Which parts of my comments were 'nonsensical' to you? I can clarify.

I've been up on this site since the GilDong days, I only recently started actively participating because of retarded threads like this one you've started here.

People have criticized what I've written in other threads. Being called out when you write something retarded is just part of the game. If you don't like people criticizing what you write, then don't write.

I'm just sayin, if you're gonna start a thread titled 'Any chance this will happen?', maybe, just maybe, whatever you write should be remotely possible. What you wrote is akin to something I would read on a Raiders fan board. Stillers fans are held to a higher standard.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Please feel free to participate in the threads I'm going to create later today:

#1 titled "Any chance this will happen (part 2)
In this thread I will ponder the possibility of the Vikings trading us Adrian Peterson for Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker.

#2 titled "Any chance this will happen (part 3)
In this one, I will ponder the possibility of the Cardinals trading us Larry Fitzgerald for Santonio Holmes and Limas Sweed.

See you there!

Steelcitymetal said it best. However, I see that you have a relatively thin skin and most likely are as queer as a three-dollar bill. Who else but a flaming fag would ask another guy to suck his (relatively small) testicles?

What's the matter, you don't like being spoken to in such terms because someone hurt your sophomoric little feelings? What's the matter, Mommy never let you realize that YOU aren't the center of the entire world?

Keep your comments concerning posts to yourself. If you want, stand in front of a mirror, bandy about all the points you want to make to that frightening image staring back at you. If you look hard enough, you just might see something worth more than a dollar fifty!

Hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure Steelcitymetal was mocking you. This isn't a 'newsgroup' it's a 'forum' (or 'message board'). I'd try to explain it to you, but you'd probably just get confused. And by the way, if you read all of the responses in this thread, I'm not the only one that's had a laugh at your expense.

But as we can tell from your ideas that started this thread, you're a really intelligent guy. So I'm sure you picked up on that.

You started a thread with maybe one of the most notoriously retarded things ever uttered on this site. I said it was retarded and stated a ton of reasons why I came to this conclusion. Now you're throwing a hissy fit. In your last post, you assert:

1) That I'm a homo
2) I have mommy issues
3) I'm unattractive
4) I have a low net worth

All personal insults which under normal circumstances might actually be humorous. But since you have never met me and know pretty much nothing about me (well, aside from the fact that I'm a Steelers fan), we all know you're just throwing shit against the wall to see if any of it sticks.

Your claws came out pretty quick there. And I'm the one with thin skin? Oh, the irony.

Twice now you've told me to keep my comments to myself. You're like a fucking 5 year old screaming 'Shut up!' at the top of his lungs because the adult is schooling your ass. If you don't like what I have to say, that's unfortunate, but you're just going to have to find a way to deal with it. If you'd like, you could just keep fabricating random insults about my net worth or mommy issues that may or may not be on the mark. It seems to have worked well for you so far.

p.s. It's flattering that you actually took the time to think about and analyze my testicles as imagined in your head. Unfortunately for you however, my 'suck my balls' comment was just an expression - not a literal invitation. My apologies for the confusion I obviously caused you.

OK... bringing this back to football.

#1 - FWP, Gay, and Carter are UFA's in another 8 weeks. They have ZERO trade value.
#2 - We got the BUS for a 1996 2nd round pick and a 1997 4th Round pick... hardly a blockbuster trade, more grand theft.
#3 - Here is a list of the recent #1 overall picks in the NFL draft. Other than Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning, none of the teams drafting these players has seen a good ROI considering the money spent on a #1 overall pick. Eli Manning is not considered, since, if you remember, he was actually drafted by San Diego. As long as I live, I pray the Steelers NEVER have the #1 overall pick. It is just not worth it.

1989 Troy Aikman
1990 Jeff George
1991 Russell Maryland
1992 Steve Emtman
1993 Drew Bledsoe
1994 Dan Wilkinson
1995 Ki-Jana Carter
1996 Keyshawn Johnson

Further argument supporting a rookie wage scale. Imagine you're the owner of an NFL team. Say you hire a coach and give him 4 or 5 years to get things together. Now imagine the guy just totally sucks and the team just basement dwells the entire time. You've got probably 5 top 10 picks from the 5 drafts he was there and probably paid them a combined $300M+ (for pretty much 0 production).

Once you slip down into that lower tier of teams, it's hard to get things turned around because the draft is really the only place you can do it and it's very hit and miss. It can be done, but you gotta be really good (or lucky).

Couch, Ki-Jana, Jamarcus, etc - there are truly some nightmarish names here. The funny part is that the Clowns & Bungles are associated w/ 5 of them & only one (Palmer) has panned out OK (sorry PalmerSucks).

Where you draft is not as important as HOW you draft. The Stillers move up about 12 slots higher than last yr so they need to hit on a couple second day pix. I'm sick of hearing about the 1st rd success (Troy, Ben etc) & want them to avoid the pukes like Colclough, Reid, Spaeth, Omar Jacobs, & Danny Farmers.

The Rookie Salary Cap/Wage scale is the primary reason that the owners voided the remainder of the current CBA. They are tired of giving away $25 million in guaranteed money to guys who have never played a down in the NFL. Once the NHL introduced the same idea a few years back, the NFL wanted in on the action too. The idea of an 18 game schedule only exists as a bargaining chip for the owners to get what they really want, and that is the Rookie Cap.

And I agree that there are far too many Willie Reid (3rd)/Zo Jackson(2nd) scrubs and not enough Mike Wallace (3rd)/Hines Ward (3rd)/Brett Keisel (7th) picks
