Seems like Steelers arent the only ones who get screwed
Anyone watch the Packers-Cardinals playoff game yesterday?
In OT there was a QB fumble, caused by a DB blitzing on the play.
The DB (who was torched all game) clearly not only had a hand to the face of the QB, but he also had a grasp of his facemask.
No penalty was called.
The fumble got run in for a TD and the game was over.
Since there is an automatic review of all TD's in OT, why wasn't this one?
Another case of refs NOT SEEING the obvious.
Seems like they shine a blind eye on things, like all the holding on James Harrison.
I'm just glad that it wasn't the manner in which the Steelers season ended!

While the facemask/hands to the face should have been called, penalties (or non-calls) are not reversable with a review.
I agree it was a crappy ending to a great game. Kind of ironic that a game that was void of any type of defense ended on a defensive score.

The ages and athleticism of the refs needs to be much closer to the age of the players if we are to see any significant improvements. Most of these guys are fat, overpaid, overweight, part-timers who pose as lawyers when not waddling down the sidelines (with the exception of Hoccoli). The are a ton of people out there looking for work right now, yet the NFL uses wealthy freakin' wannabe part-time lawyers who look like they should be greeters at the Wal-mart entrance. I just don't get why the zebras cannot be full-time 30 or 40 somethings who could actually pass a Jr High fitness test.

This is only marginally related, but I did feel some sympathy for Packer fans watching their much-vaunted defense get trashed by the Cards. From experience with the Steelers, it's bad enough when your team has huge weaknesses and you know it, but it's much more frustrating when the blow-hards on tv keep talking about what a bunch of studs they are and how shut-down the secondary is, and how amazing the blitzes are. Makes you want to puke.
Sorry, Packers guys. Cya next year.

Unfortunately, on this particular play, the official in charge of making the call on the facemask was also the official watching the ball to see if it was a fumble or pass.
Unfortunate, but that's how it is.
And, to be quite honest, it's the way it's always been.
It's not so much the "speed of the game" that's causing more officials to make errors, it's that technology has gotten so good that we can go back and see more of the errors that were always being made.

it's obviously a conspiracy.
did you see how rodgers kicked the ball so it would stay in the air for an interception? he was obviously paid off to throw the game.

it looked to me like he was trying to bounce the ball back to himself, sometimes nerves take over in that situation

Re: Seems like Steelers arent the only ones who get screwed
The Steelers didn't get screwed, the Steelers screwed themselves............
Cards fans were whining last year over missed calls in the SB.........
Heck, I know a Clowns fan who still can't get over that game-winning FG by the Broncos way back in the 1986 AFC Championship Game!! He still claims that kick was "wide left"........ (There's even a YouTube on this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2O7bDqMO0I )
At least the Pack team itself seems to have gotten over it.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

Actually I was argueing with the cards fans on their site. They pointed out that you can touch face masks. If the ref feels it was unintentional and you didn't jerk it, No foul. I thought that rule sucks cause we got called for a few incidentals too. The explaination was you touch a facemask you get 15 yards, Guess that's only if you wear black n gold. See rule 5

so you're saying if the steelers aren't playing don't watch football at all? just because i'm a steelers fan doesn't mean i can't be a fan of the game itself.

i actually don't watch too much NFL if the Steelers aren't involved. I'm a huge fan of football (I watch college football all saturday) but I hate other NFL teams so much I generally avoid games unless its MNF, playoffs, SB, etc.

Mike Pereira (VP of Officiating) discusses the end of the Packers-Cardinals game on NFLN's Official Review
he calls it an incidental grab, no twisting or pulling of mask.
and ref was probably following the ball, to watch for incomplete or fumble, since the ball came loose before the tackle.
also, pereira talked to the refs and they said that had the ball hit the ground, and the play went under review, they would have left it as called on the field.
