Anthonyc20 mock draft v 2.0

Postby anthonyc20 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 12:32 am

Round 1
CB Donovan Warren, Michigan
Height: 6-0. Weight: 182.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Projected Round (2010): Top 25 Pick.

Our Steelers have lived on the edge even in the Super Bowl years with sporting a very very thin secondary. This year injuries in the secondary in all likelihood cost the Steelers a playoff spot. Warren had a great Junior season on a bad defense, and would immediately be the most talented corner on the team. Most defensive players don't seem to get a chance their first 2 years on the squad but he should be able to suit up and start immediately.

Round 2
S Chad Jones, LSU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2010): 2.

We will most likely have a new starting safety next year one way or another. With Troy coming back and two new players in the secondary I think the Steelers defense can be dominant again. Jones doesn't have the best measurables but is a great tackler and decent in coverage.

Round 3
OT Kyle Calloway, Iowa
Height: 6-7. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4

Calloway is a beast that can play both tackle positions. Had some disciplinary problems but seems to be straightened out and had a great season on a stellar offensive line for the Hawkeyes.

Round 4
ILB Sean Lee, Penn State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 236.
Projected 40 Time: 4.78.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

Yes he has an ugly injury history, but he is still a top round talent. Take a chance on him, as he won't have to play right away. Tackling machine, and better against the pass than other Stiller LBs.

Round 5
TE Tony Moeaki, Iowa
Height: 6-4. Weight: 255.
Projected 40 Time: 4.80.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5

Hopefully Spaeth is cut, or traded, or thrown off a cliff. For all the 2 TE sets we use, it would be nice to have someone with some actual football talent (i.e. catching, blocking) on the field. Moeaki has had some injuries but was very good when he played.

Round 6
KR/PR/QB/WR Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 176.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

I think its useless to have Logan, who was mediocore for most of the season and below average at the beginning, on the roster if he is solely being used as a returner. The Steelers obviously could not use him in the offense so why not get a guy who is just as talented but can play both WR and QB (randle-el anyone?). I think he could be the steal of the draft, although I doubt the Steelers could utilize him properly.

Round 7
NT Travis Ivey, Maryland
Height: 6-4. Weight: 325.
Projected 40 Time: 5.40.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA

Big fat guy. So basically as useful if not more than Hampton. Had some sacks in college and actually was pretty decent stopping the run behind the line. But what do I know, Hampton is in the pro bowl right?

Interesting picks, all. agree with our "needs" comments - TE to replace spaeth, Multi-talent to replace Logan. I love Sean Lee. I see him putting Farrior on KO coverage teams! (We're gonna be payin' him, might as well put him on the field somewhere, why not STs?) I hope we get to get Lee or Hull from PSU.

All the picks fill needs, not sure of their quality but take your word for it. We need 'em as you've selected 'em.

Replace Logan? That was the only bright side to our special teams. How about replacing his mediocre blockers and involve him more in the offense?

First round (in order of most wanted):
1. Bryan Bulaga, OT Iowa (Move Colon to guard if he stays, get Essex the fuck out of there)
2. Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan (removing William Gay from the roster is the Steelers #1 need in the offseason)
3. Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee (assuming Hampton goes elsewhere)
4. 2. Eric Berry (Trade up a first and second/player. Definitely not going to happen though)

Second round:
1. Brandon Spikes, ILB (replacement for Taunto)
2. Chad Jones, FS LSU
3. Taylor Mays, SS USC (younger version of Ryan Clark)
4. Golden Tate, WR Notre Dame (Note: WR is not a need but this guy is Hines Ward, Jr.)

Third round:
1. Matt Tennant, C, Boston College (Hartwig needs to be canned immediately)
2. Kyle Calloway, OT, Iowa
3. Mike Johnson, G, Alabama

If there is any possibility (which I doubt there will) to get Bulgaga, then I'm all for it. If the Steelers passed up on Bulgaga I'd have a heart attack, hes a monster (should be a top 10 pick). I was assuming he'd be gone.

Round 1
CB Donovan Warren, Michigan
Height: 6-0. Weight: 182.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Projected Round (2010): Top 25 Pick.

I like Warren but 18th o/a is too high........plus Steelers won't take a CB.

Round 2
S Chad Jones, LSU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2010): 2.

IMO Jones is too big to play safety...........if he gained 15 lbs I'd take him to replace Farrior.

Round 3
OT Kyle Calloway, Iowa
Height: 6-7. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4

I don't think the Steelers will draft OL. Calloway played right guard in the Orange bowl so not sure he has RT ability for the pros.

Round 4
ILB Sean Lee, Penn State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 236.
Projected 40 Time: 4.78.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

I like Lee but he'll be gone by the time our 4th pick comes around. However, Angerer from Iowa maybe there and I like him a lot.........he plays the run good but is outstanding in pass coverage with his 4.5 speed.

Round 5
TE Tony Moeaki, Iowa
Height: 6-4. Weight: 255.
Projected 40 Time: 4.80.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5

Again I just don't see the Steelers drafting a TE..........I'd try to find the best blocking UFA TE and bring him into camp.

Round 6
KR/PR/QB/WR Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 176.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

I'm ok with this pick.

Round 7
NT Travis Ivey, Maryland
Height: 6-4. Weight: 325.
Projected 40 Time: 5.40.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA

I've never seen this guy play so I'll trust you on this one. Maybe a OT to replace the worst player on the roster Tony Hills. The LT from Univ. Cincy maybe.
