rooney wants steelers to run the ball more

Postby m1k3 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 1:02 pm

Something tells me we're going to see Arians alter his philosophy a bit.

How the fu#$@ck can we run the ball when we have the useless piles of shit at guard & tackle???

We'll be a little better than 56/44 pass/run next yr, but not by much. I predict Spindenhall will get hurt twisting in the Heinz turf in Sept!!

Yep... I especially liked this quote...

"There was never any tug of war, 'Let's fire Bruce' or anything like that. It's one of those things: There re certain positions that take the heat in any season that goes wrong and offensive coordinators are always fair game, and Bruce knows that."

If our OL was so shitty, how did Ben throw for over 4000yds and "Spindenhall" avg ~5yds per carry?

I'm not saying we got the best OL ever assembled, but the stats seem to indicate they got the job done most of the time.

No offense, but this organization has managed to win more Super Bowls than anyone else has. And they've been able to do it without the knowledge/direction of the almighty stillers.com forums. Just sayin.

I agree m1k3......but never in all the years of rootin for my Steelers has a coach stood out as a complete idiot as has BA-OC.....i just can't fathom that the front office of which you speak just does not see a problem....just weird

Steelhope, agree 100%. I am no genius or football guru, BUT, even I can tell this idiocy of keeping Arians around can't be positive. I felt the line was coming together, sacks more Ben's fault and lack of OC ingenuity, i.e., moving the pocket, roll-outs, quick tosses, stuff like that, stuff that actually SLOWS a pass rush when they get different looks and get some confusion workin'.

This idiot is: up the center's butt, up the guard's ass, pass for 80, punt.
Or: drop back and throw deep, drop back further and throw further, take a sack, and punt.

Hate to bring Pats into this but we all saw the value of the short crossing stuff when Welker was out. They can't move the ball otherwise. Short passes slow the rush, keeps backers off the line, allows line to read their block more clearly.

Where's Danny Kreider? Love to se him back there opening holes for Mendy. Oh yeah, forgot, he's still playin' in Jan.

Well, I don't think there's any two ways about it, boys. I think Rooney drew a line in the sand.

When he publicly criticizes the run game, I think it's safe to assume Arians will be gone if it doesn't improve. And if it does improve, I think we'll be back on the right track. It should be a win-win for us.

I'm glad Rooney weighed in on an area that has bothered all of us. This team has not had a go-to running play for the last few years and the propensity of lining up for 3rd and 1 w/an empty backfield is enough to piss off anyone. For the life of me, though, I can't understand why Tomlin did not force the issue himself coming into the season. Perhaps he doesn't have enough confidence in his offensive abilities, but recent developments leave little room for doubt about the future. With an O-line intact now for a couple of years and a committment to being more balanced, I'm excited about 2010.

Starks, Kemo, Colon?, Urbik?. Those guys could push the piles. I'm looking forward to free agency. After that we can more effectively start speculating on the draft.

I sure hope you're right, M1k3. Good point about the gauntlet being thrown. Let's see if they hold to it.
Too much talent that is not getting younger. I did not know GB picked up Kuhn until we played them. He's a big 'un! And we have Carey Davis, whom no one picked up when he was waived?

Ass Arians cuts Danny Kreider, who everyone looked out for in locker room as I understand it. He was very respected among the guys and Mr. Mensa cuts him. "No FB's in MY offense!" Well, Brucie boy, you ARE an OFFENSE!

I have to admit I'm still kinda annoyed when I see Kreider out there in AZ.
