Waddya gonna do next year, 'Ariens Lovers'...

Postby bigjoespompano » Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:19 am

....If we get a repeat of the same from Captain Fat-azz next season? All indications are that we should have a very similar year (Maybe even a little better with the return of Troy and Arron Smith). What will you say when Ben, once again tosses for several thousand yards and the recievers grab another amazing recieving total? And the running backs each bite of a bazillion yards rushing? And AGAIN we miss the play offs due to this morons child-like play calling and Pee-brained decisions? Who ya gonna blame? C'mon, I'm sure you've already discussed this in your 'Ariens for Head Coach' Fan Club meetings. Gonna blame the Defense again? The Refs? Poor field conditions? What? Let's get this out now so we know which direction you are heading.

98% of the Steeler Nation Fan base wants this fat Fukk dragged out, beaten and SHOT but you nuts still staunchly defend him. Well you got your wish with his retention. If he AGAIN fukks up next year, may the rest of us beat YOU senseless instead?....

Easy Bigjoe, I don't know if I'll be healthy enough to take on those morons.
I'll be leaving too much blood on the screen when it shoots out of my eyes from his calls.

Mckeesrocks calls him "offensive". He is.....just that,..."OFFENSIVE".
OFFENSIVE TO STEELERS, TO STEELERS NATION, heck, to all of football.

who are the "Arians lover's" ?

I have yet to read anyone defending the fool .....except by spreading the blame around...O-line, Defense collapse, special teams, Etc......and IMO spreading the blame is legit but the most glaring error has to be our bozo OC......his head in the sand vanilla play calling has to be 80% of our shortcomings

Arians must be a meeting warrior. I've met them in business environments. They can't do a thing on their own but man can they talk up a storm in boardroom meetings.

Without a doubt, Arians is part of the problem. However, to lay the entire fault at his feet is a bit simplistic IMHO.

First, it is impossible for us to know what he is (in theory at least) trying to accomplish with the calling of certain plays in certain circumstances. Note that I'm not saying they are good calls....I'm not saying they are the right calls......what I have no way of knowing is the game plan part of the play calling.

Second, Arians does not play. We can bitch and moan about the play calling; however, the fact is they just did not play well in certain games this year. All the players took turns taking the dumb ass pill and had a poor game. Some players -- Limas for example -- simply aren't that good. Other, like Hines and Taunto, are aging and it's clear their skills are on the decline. Some, like Tonio and Taylor, like to take plays off from time to time. For whatever reason, they just did not play that well. Exhibit A is the ST!!

Third, is LUCK. Some would call it the Mafia. Whatever it is, they lost games in 2009 that they didn't in 2008. A penalty here, a drop there....a missed INT....the "cloud" was over this team all frickin year in 2009.

Finally, they looked and acted plum wore out, disinterested, and unmotivated all damn year. They are contented and fat. Super Bowl wins do that to you. They simply did not have the juice in them. Hunger was not a motivation.

And I see that as a failure on the part of the FO and the head coach.

reed's missed kicks in Chicago, Sweed's drop in Cincy game, and Balt's convert of 3rd & 22 at Balt. Hit these and we're 12-4 with a bye. Throw in INT that we missed in Oakland game and we're 13-3, livin' large.

Luck is part and mental part BUT, ask: Why are we in these positions in SO MANY games? Because our "O" has no killer instinct, a drive to put teams away early. Arians does not attack but just hit & hope on the long ball. We NEED to demand that the ball stays with our O. Demand that we WILL score on you and get our back-ups some PT. Cowher did demand that from O. Score early and score often. (His 2nd half lead protection record is OFF THE CHARTS, RIDICULOUS!) No one came back on his teams.

arians offense scheme lets poor teams hang around and hang around because so much rides on the LOW % "Big Play". Then poor teams might grab a pass and take one to the house. If we'd put teams away early, this would not be an issue and critical plays would be less necessary. MT needs to demand scores from this offense. We have the players. We don't have an OC.

I guess BR7 would have to take a beating as well, since he is most likely BA's biggest cheerleader.
However, I think the Rooney's made the message clear, and we will have a more balanced offense, and hopefully an O-line that can impose itself on opponents, next year and beyond.

And because of that, he just might take a beating...... By opposing DEs and LBs..................
Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

True. One thing I'm hoping for (perhaps beyond reason) is that Tomlin makes Ben realize that his body can't take 50+ sacks/per year forever. If Ben wants to last in this league beyond the age of 30, we need a more balanced offense, and less of Ben getting killed out of BA's empty backfields.

I'm not really an Arians-lover per se and really question his play-calling in certain situations, but let's face facts shall we? In 2009, the defense was responsible for far more losses than the offense, and that's a fact. In fact, you can pin the 1st Cincinnati and 1st Baltimore losses squarely on the shoulders of one James Farrior and by extention, Dick LeBeau and Mike Tomlin for having him out there in those key situations. You can also look at the sorry state of the special teams unit all season long. You can't blame that on Arians. I grant you the 2nd Cleveland game was an Arians abortion, but tell me how the offense was the culprit in the Kansas City and Oakland losses? Tell me how the offense/Arians was nearly the culprit in the last-minute Green Bay win when it was apparent that Coach Tomlin has lost all confidence in the defense? If you want a scapegoat for the 2009 season, I really don't think you go with Arians.
