Help! Here's to hoping for some upsets...

Postby CharlieFoxtrot » Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:23 pm

KC TD on their first drive...

Oakland didn't go 3 and out on their first drive (still currently in progress)

Cincy v. Jets???

I'm not sure at this point if I should be getting my hopes up or if I should simply take things at face value...

Does anybody in their right mind really want this shitty team to get into the playoffs? I mean, c'mon, they tried once again to give away a big lead this time to the Dolphins. Fuckin Tomlin shoulda played it smart and threw this game.

Pinning our hopes on Charlie Frye makes me sick to my stomach. I would rather the Steelers just sit at home and contemplate the losses that kept them out. I already have puke residue in my mouth from last weeks Colts game, and now the Patriots one today.

Looks like the season is over, sianara

Yes because i pull for my team to win and have a chance to win it all and not to lose so some people will get fired

I do. I think we'd do OK if we made it in and TP came back.

I don't want them to lose so that some people get fired, although I think that some people should get fired, I want them to lose so that they get a better draft position. They don't try to fix themselves through free agency so they have to do it via the draft. And they do need them some fixin'.

Look I understand where everyone is coming from...

Yes, this team has some legitimate issues regarding offense and defense...

Yes, we shouldn't have to rely on help to make it to the post-season, losing 5 straight games to the teams we lost to is unacceptable and we are all well aware of those who should be held responsible

But what have we got to lose? Don't want to make the playoffs? Why? We're in no mans land in terms of the draft so why not take a run? I don't think that it would be easy to replicate what happened in 2005-2006, but I would gladly sacrifice the 19th pick in the draft for the 23rd if that means we have a chance to roll the dice in the post-season.

I've followed this board since I was a kid and Kordell Stewart led us to a 6-10 record, and I was here when we had the Tommy Gun. I tailgated in Detroit with a lot of fine folks from this site when we won 40...there has always been a lot of negativity on this board, and a lot of times it was justified, but some times I simply don't understand the rationale of those who wish us to do poorly...

The rationale was explained quite clearly, you just tried to belittle it. The difference in one draft position can make the difference between drafting a star or settling for a dud. The Steelers have been in that situation time and time again.

Look we all want to make the playoffs, and everyone can tell you I've held out hope on here longer than most, but there is nothing else for us to do. We screwed ourselves, need an insane ammount of help, and I have given up hope. Granted if we got the miracle and squeek in we could make some noise with Troy back, but I wouldn't hold your breathe. Worst case scenario, Baltimore and Denver lose. Then Jets win same way Houston did.

Madmoney, I agree with you, and I'm fairly grounded in the reality of the situation that we're currently in. I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't hold out much hope either, but until the Ravens or Broncos separate themselves from their opponent, I think there is still some hope.

Coke I respectfully disagree with you. I think that Colbert and the front office have shown in the past that if a player they really like is endangered of being drafted in front of them, they will trade up. They did that with Holmes, they did that with Troy, and correct me if I'm wrong they did that with Casey (?)...

I agree with you, the Steelers make their team through the draft and that is a vital part of the franchise, but I just don't agree with flushing the season down the drain until it's a definite reality, regardless of the odds. Thats just a point of principle for me and obviously a difference in philosophy.

A competent front office, which I would argue the Steelers have, should never have to settle for a "dud"

I point to the secondary and I point to the offensive line and I rest my case.

Fair points Coke. I cringed when they didn't make a point to resign McFadden this past offseason...a lot of people forget how huge he was for us during that superbowl run in 2005, and I think he had been pretty decent for us since. I for one and very perplexed about our defense. We've lost a lot of good players this year to injury. You shutter to think that Troy and Aaron Smith were that important to this defense. Keisel dealt with some injuries as well.

I think that losing Troy and having to play Carter for the whole year really hurt us a lot more than people think this year. LeBeau had been under a lot of fire and while he should have been able to adjust schemes appropriately, you can only do so much with what you have, an oversight by the FO perhaps, which is to your point.

The offensive line has been a shit show for quite some time as we all know, and it frustrates me as much as the next guy. You kind of wonder what it would be like if we kept Faneca maybe...I don't know...

At the same time though Coke, Colbert has been here for a long time. To your point, we build this team through the draft...we've won 2 superbowls since Colbert has been here...I don't think Tom Donahoe had a lot to do with that

No, Colbert's done pretty good given the draft positions he's had to work with. In the early rounds that is. I think he'd do a lot better with higher picks in each of the rounds.

Russell is in for OAK.. Bal will have a field day. It's over. So many ups and downs today. The Pats up by 2 scores and blew it. Depressing.

Raider D looking stout; too bad Russel had to come in for Frye. Ravens not looking like a team that will make a deep run. That team is Ray Rice and nothing else whatsoever. Ah, yes, nice pick by Russel. Way to kill your and my team's chances. Prick.

turn overs definitely don't help...JaMarcus is by all accounts a big waste of life...he has a big arm though, down by 1 possession is no bueno, but the tease goes on...lol look man I don't feel good about this either, but lets have fun with it...in the words of Chris Farley

"So you're saying there's a chance"....

A little brevity never hurt lol...
