my draft day idea

Postby hatethebrowns » Sat Jan 02, 2010 11:40 am

Well normally at this time of the year i look forward to having a week off and a chance to watch and see who the steelers are going to play in the next week.

However this year is totally different and I have to say that i really don't like it at all! When you lose to 3 of the worst teams in the NFL the only thing you have to look forward to is the draft.

This year in the draft I think that we need to focus on the lines and the secondary. That being said I think that in round one of the draft we should select Terrence Cody.

This guy is a monster and he would clog up the middle and let the linebackers reak havoc on opposing teams qbs.

In round 2 of the draft I think that we should take Trevard Lindley

Since our CBs cant catch a cold it would be nice to see someone in the secondary that didnt have hard as a rock hands and actually could catch a pass.

In round 3 of the draft I think we should take Selvish Capers.

Capers would be a great pulling tackle. This guy runs a 4.96 and is almost 300lbs. Just think how sweet it would be having a 300lb lineman blasting into the secondary and making safety's and CBs fly.

Well thats my take on what we should do if these guys are available. Lets hope that this bump in the road is just the setup for another dynasty.

Good thoughts. In general, the Steelers need many prior draftees to step up next year. That includes the two CBs drafted last year, Sweed, and Urbik. We will basically be starting over where drafted before if those folks cannot cut it. The bug question for me is Hampton. If we lose him, we probably need to go NT in the first round. That skews everything right there. Based on the results this year, we obviously need a safety as Troy and Clark are the only true NFL guys that play that position. The others fall in the never were, never will be category.

The O-Line needs more help so you can factor in a pick or two there. Center is a true need. We have our OG that was out all year coming back and he has some skills at center but was he ever any good?

Should be interesting. If Sweed is not going to be a player, we need a WR but that would really deflect the focus of the draft.

Of course, we will probably waste another pick on an athletic back up QB that cannot really play. That would be worth it again, right? Yikes.

I dont think that we need to waste a pick on a QB dixion is a fine backup and i think that we should get him into the mix more then we do. I think he would make a good fit in a mike vick kinda role.

One thing I want us to get we cant get in the draft and that is a new OC. We have all the weapons in the basket and dont have the brains to use them.

Great post on the TE. Yes, the club has an affinity for marginal TE picks, back up QBs that suck (Omar Jacobs anyone?), and reaches at OLB (Bruce Davis anyone?), among other positions. I will say it again. I do not know what the difference is between the Steelers in the draft and other teams, but it sure seems like other teams can draft rookies that can play immediately and play well, while we rarely do that. This does not make a ton of sense, but ladies and gentleman, I give you Kraig Urbik. Urbik's inability to be any kind of player may have been the difference between the O-Line becoming truly useful and the recurring struggles we have seen.

Other teams draft lineman in the third round that may start every game for them. And they flourish. We get a never-suited-up guy.

To get back to where we want to be, we desperately need Burnett, Keenan Lewis, and Sweed to be useful next year. Otherwise, we will likely have the same corners and receivers. And Hines is not getting any younger, Townsend is aging, Gay is questionable, and the safeties behind Troy and Clark (who we need to re-sign) suck.

Lots of holes.

As to QB, hopefully we can get Leftwich back. He would be a good back up for five years. Dixon will never be more than he is now. You can book that one.

Maybe, just maybe, a new, rising star of an OC will surface in the Boise State v. TCU bowl game.
Not sure how college OC's transfer/adjust to pro game but these 2 offenses are just plain fun to watch.

Are you all sure we can't just "cut" Arians? What's he have in that locked drawer at his desk anyway?
