Doom scenario happening...Pats will hold key to our fate...

Postby Jeemie » Sun Dec 27, 2009 3:14 pm

...if everything else breaks our way.

And they'll have nothing to play for except seeding...which I cannot believe they'll care about.

jets will lose to colts this afternoon. that will help, but we have to win out.

Jets/Colts is irrelevant (well, not really, because the Jest have to lose, but it doesn't help us against Houston). Houston is the problem- they will own a 4-1 to 2-3 edge on us in common opponents if they win out.

We have to hope for a Dolphins' second-half rally, a Pats' win next week, or a Raiders' upset over Baltimore next week and KC upset over Denver next week.

NOT good odds.

This is why you don't drop winnable games to teams like the Bears, Chiefs, Raiders, and Browns.

Good thing the Bengals won, that means the Pats have something to play for (3rd seed) against the Texans next week

Assuming NYJets lose to IND today, and DEN loses to PHI today.

What happens if

- PIT wins at MIA, and
- HOU wins at NE, and
- BAL wins at OAK, and
- DEN loses vs KC.

According to yahoo playoff scenario app, in that case DEN gets 6th seed, and BAL gets 5th seed.

Switch the outcome of the HOU-NE, and PIT gets in as 6.

If yahoo app is correct, then in essense, HOU has nothing to play for if DEN and BAL win.

On the the hand, if HOU wins, then we need both BAL and DEN to lose, i.e., only one of those losing does not help us.

EDIT: I think yahoo app might be wrong, so pls disgregard the above or take it to yahoo if wrong.

That, or BAL to drop vs OAK.

Yahoo! is correct.

The above scenario results in Pittsburgh/Baltimore/Houston tied at 9-7.

The first rule in a three-or-more tie is settle division ties first.

Baltimore eliminates Pittsburgh based on division record (3-3 v Pittsburgh's 2-4).

Baltimore then eliminates Houston based on conference record (7-5 v Houston's 6-6) and gets #5.

Now, for #6, that leaves Houston and Pittsbugh...and Houston takes out the steelers based on common games (4-1 against Miami, Cincinnati, Tennesse, and Oakland v Pittsburgh's 2-3 mark).

Add Denver to the mix, and Baltimore still gets #5, and Denver eliminates Houston and Pittsburgh based on conference record (our win over Denver doesn't get us anything in a three-team tie).

Hi Jeemie: I was changing the outcomes of the games, and I edited my post, instead of posting a new one.

Is the following true?

- we need either HOU to lose to NE, or
- both BAL and DEN to drop their respective games in week 17?

EDIT: OK, I see your earlier post said exactly that.
