Mean Joe was the best player on the Steelers when Terry arrived in town, and he was still an all-pro when Terry threw his last pass. And the year that Terry went down with an injury, it was Mean Joe who led the defense to five or six shutouts.
The Steelers dynasty was built on defense, and number 75 was the cornerstone of that defense.
Another player who deserves mention and votes is the only Steeler whose number has officially been retired. Ernie Stautner played on some awful teams, but he was the toughest SOB in the NFL for years. Too bad number 70 played before so many of the voters were born. You all missed a great one.
