Re: Thoughts on Ben!
I thought I'd chime in too. Pretty much everyone above has good points.
1. Is Ben an elite quarterback? Sure. He flies under the radar, there is less hype around him, but numbers do tell that he is an elite QB. He is top 5 or 10 in pretty much every category of career QBs (1500+ pass attempts), has 2 rings, and has a good playoff record. With respect to playoff records, the average playoff quarterback has 50-50 win-lose record (or slightly worse), so anything above that is pretty good.
2. Has he matured since his rookie year? Definitely. Consider also that the team relies on him for comebacks and improvization, as opposed to protecting him.
3. Is he consistently good? Depends on your definition. You can do one of the following: take each of his years (04-09), calculate a measure of his performance per game (e.g., QB rating or something else), and take standard deviation PER year. You will see he is pretty consistent. Is he consistent across years? This might give you a different answer, but the sample size is also smaller. Also, if you include games played in your definition of consistency, then obviously, Ben has missed non-significant number of games during certain seasons.
4. Is he utilized to his full potential? Maybe, maybe not. However, Ben is not the entire team. If defense, spec. teams, or parts of offense sputter, then Ben alone can not win games. Also, quality and savviness of the coaching staff has a lot to do with utilizing Ben's potential.
5. Does he study during the games? According to some of you, not. Probably those of you who think so see some pictures of Manning looking at still photos during the time on the sidlines, and think that since Ben is not doing it, then Ben is not a hard worker. I would be interested to know if this is a reflection on the coaches, or if this is an indicator of success.

Just to fuel the fire, this may or may not sway some of the doubters, but thought i'd throw it out there anyway.

Re: Thoughts on Ben!
Okay, so now to use the same dumb logic that some idiots have been using against Ben.
Ben's statistics to Dan Marino's. The Steelers could not win a superbowl without Ben Roethlisberger, The Dolphins could not win a superbowl with Dan Marino, so Ben must be the better QB?
Ben won as many playoff games in 5 years, as Dan Marino had in 17 years, so Ben must be the better QB?
Ben throws for more yards per the same number of completion, Ben throws more completions per the same number of attempts, Ben also has a higher career QB rating, so Ben must be better than Dan Marino?
Dan Marino is considered the greatest retired QB of all-time, so Big Ben must be better than any QB that has ever retired to date?

Big Ben is the greatest QB to ever play the game
The Steelers will only be as successful as Big Ben is!

Re: Thoughts on Ben!
Glad to see you come to your senses. You spent the entire game thread bad mouthing a quarterback that threw 503 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Only the third quaterback in history.

BigE wrote:I gave Ben a pass his rookie season because of the way he was thrown into the fire. He was protected that first year and ask just not to make mistakes, which he ended up doing in AFCC game. However, since the start of his second year I have questioned the study habits and work ethic of Ben Roth. It does not seem as though he knows how to read defenses very well, or how to make adjustments to certain blitzes and defenses at the line of scrimmage. He also has not been able to learn to throw the ball away. For every great play he makes by holding the ball, there are 10 negative ones. Usually, these happen at the worst times such as what happened in the Cleveland game on the last drive. Steelers with a 1st and 10, Ben carelessly holds the ball too long and takes a 9 yard sack. I am sick of seeing this, and I don't believe that he puts in alot of study time when it comes to the opponent. I think he belives that he can just go out there and play on instinct alone. What is even more baffling is the fact that the coaching staff refuses to try and correct the problem, instead they just so "you take the good with the bad". This is bullshit, the coaches have to realize that this is detrimental to the team and they must force Ben to start throwing the ball away when nobody is open. I also believe that Ben is a very selfish player and individual (thought you can't tell it from the way he talks). It was him and him alone that wanted Bruce Airhead Arians as the OC, because Big Bad Bruce gives him free reign to do pretty much anything he wants. It was obvious that Ben did not like Wisenhunt and like Arians personnaly. Quite frankly it is not about who Ben likes and doesn't like personnaly, it is about results and Wisenhunt was 10x better of an OC than the Big Dumbass. Time for Ben to put his pride aside for the teams sake.
Cripes what a fuckin' idiot the dolt who started this thread is, and not just because of his horrid spelling and wanton disregard for the English language. You have no fucking idea what Ben is like or what goes on in the Steeler locker room other than your own dumbass perception. Try having a look at Big Ben's results before you pass judgment you twit. Since he's arrived on the scene - TWO LOMBARDIS, three division titles, four playoff appearances, most games won by a starting quarterback in his first five seasons than ANYONE in NFL history. And all you can do is gripe about what you perceive to be his attitude and work ethic? Do you realize the fucking dolts who lined up under center between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger? Moron.
