In order to make playoffs....
4 of 5 of these HAS to happen BESIDES us winning out....
1. Broncos must lose all 3 games
2. Jets must lose twice
3. Jags must lose twice
4. Ravens must lose one game in addition to Pittsburghs game
5. Dolphons must lose one game in addition to Pittsburghs game
Just a little FYI if this hasnt been posted already....

Re: In order to make playoffs....
If all games are considered 50/50 shots at winning or losing.
Then are odds are at about 7.5% that we'll make it, not inlcuding the odds that we win out.
That's enough for me!!

Re: In order to make playoffs....
Broncos do not have to lose all three games...just two of three.
Basically, what has to happen is:
1) Steelers win all three
2) The likely favored teams win all the other games EXCEPT...
3) ...an upset must occur in one of Denver's games against Oakland or KC or in one of Baltimore's games with Chicago or Oakland.

Re: In order to make playoffs....
Four out of five each at probability .5, I get
.5 x .5 x .5 x .5 = .0625 = 6.25%
.5 x .5 x .5 x .5 = .0625 = 6.25%

Re: In order to make playoffs....
Ravens win out +
Steelers lose out +
Bungles lose out =
Steelers get a top 10 draft pick + Crybaby Carson Palmer watches the playoffs from his crib at home + Undefeated Colts lose the Super Bowl to the undefeated Saints while crybaby Tom Brady watches Drew Brees hoist the Lombardi from his crib at home + one happy Stiller fan laughing his head off at my house.
OK. All this might be a long-shot, but no more than any scenario that puts the fumblin', bumblin' '09 Stillers in the playoffs.

If the Steelers come out with some fire and beat Green Bay looking like the team that beat Denver and Minn, then maybe. If they slop and slather and loose the game or just squeak by then it's over.

Re: In order to make playoffs....
Ugh, the Ravens now have the second seed with the Jags loss. The Steelers simply must spoil it for them.
You asked with your eyes Trent, you asked with your eyes.
Re: In order to make playoffs....
You have NO shot at beating the Packers or Ravens ! The Steelers quit weeks ago !!
Re: In order to make playoffs....
Ugh.
I don't know how to make this any more clear:
The Steelers will NOT make the playoffs this year.
You can do your math, run the what if scenario, hope, pray, hell jackoff if you want. But they will not make the playoffs.
Sad, sad, sad...but true.

Not so fast bitch! Casey Hampton is going to tear off Ryan Grant's legs and eat them. Aaron Rodgers is then going to take sacks like a queer at a bubble bath party. LaMarr Woodley is going to rip out Ray Rice's lungs and set them on fire. The Ravens might as well put their underwear on backwards at that point because then they are FUCKED!!! Making the playoffs might not happen for the Steelers, but Pittsburgh is the defending Super Bowl champion, and they will show these poser teams a thing or 6 about football...Cunt .

Re: In order to make playoffs....
The only thing that Hampton has tore all year is "another chicken leg" to eat. This clown is worthless.

UPDATED LIST
1. Broncos must lose one game
2. Jets must lose one game
3. Jags must lose one game
4. Ravens must lose one game in addition to Pittsburghs game
The original fifth step has been accomplished since Pittsburgh winning out is already mandatory. Therefore, only 3 of these 4 things must happen and the Steelers WILL make the playoffs as the 6th seed.
Okay, so still not that likely, right, haterz?
Lets take a look at the other teams' remaining schedules.
Broncos: kansas city and philadelphia
Jets: indianapolis and cincy
Jaguars: new england and cleveland
Ravens: oakland and pittsburgh
Essentially, given the Steelers winning out, for them not to make the playoffs would require 4 upsets.
Granted, this is the NFL and somehow the Jets could win out (craziest thing I could think of that could happen this season), BUT I think everyone would find it appeasing that Pittsburgh's biggest obstacle is no longer getting help from other teams, but simply winning out the rest of their season, not unlike 2005 (and 2006 btw).
Other than the Ravens beating the shitty bears, this week could not have possibly gone better for the Pittsburgh Steelers .

Ok, What happens if the following teams finish 9-7
Balt, PGH, Denver, and Tenn all finish at 9-7, Balt 5th seed us 6th?

That's an interesting question.
If Denver and Pittsburgh were alone at 9-7, the Steelers would get the nod. Same with if Tenn was in the mix.
But if you bring other teams (like the ravens) into the mix of 9-7, then it depends on who the Broncos lose to. Conference record COULD push them over the top...

Re: In order to make playoffs....
ILLSTILL: very good analysis.
Essentially, despite needing help from 3 out of 4 teams, the likelihood that the help will come is quite high, given those other teams are playing with somewhat more favored teams, and that the help needed is generally 1 out of 2 games, which makes the probability of help quite a bit higher.
So essentially, Pittsburgh winning out is the main ingredient we are looking for here. Plus, it is more exciting and is a way for the team to prove they can win.
Playoffs start early for some teams this year
