Improving This Team

Postby Southern Still » Sat Dec 12, 2009 11:42 pm

Long time lurker 1st time poster. Wanted to get your thoughts on what we need to address in the draft and through Free Agency to improve next year.

First and foremost, I think Tomlin MUST let Arians and Ligashesky walk to earn some cretibility back. Absolutely, positively must fire them. There needs to be a new energy/mindset on the offensive side of the ball. I just don't think Airans is pushing the right buttons and I don't think the players are down with his system.

Ligashesky is just a train wreck . . . not too much needs to be said there.

Thoughts on our team needs.

Offense:

- We need to figure out what we're going to do with Sweed. If we're going to keep him, they better commit to grooming him. If not, let him go and let's go get a playmaker as our #2 WR to flanker opposite of Holmes.

- Improve the O-line. Essex is terrible and Colin isn't playing to his potential. Foster needs reps, but I think we may have something in him. I still think the Steelers need a Center. Hartwig is a body ... we need more than a body in front of Ben. We need a franchise great that can become the next Dawson or Webster.

- Get a FB and build the role of FB back into the playbook.

Defense:

- Upgrade to Farrior. Brother James is a liability in pass coverage. I'd like to see us go after that cat from Bama, Rolando McClain. Man, I'd love to see him in Black & Gold

- Go after a ballhawk CB and reduce Gay to nothing buy Dime packages and ST's coverage.

- Hood is better suited to put on 20lbs and play NT than he is a DE. I think we should be targeting a stout DE in the draft.

That's pretty much all I can think of right now, but I'm sure you all have a few more suggestions.

Let's hear 'em.

Well, I'd say we have a possible fullback with Frank Summers, but time will tell with him.
On offense I'd suggest a brick wall of a LT to help protect Ben and open more holes for Mendenhall.
WITHOUT A DOUBT we need a shut down CB. Second I'd like to see a leader/motivator on defense...someone who hit's like a truck and has the smarts to control the D. Troy is a great player, but he's not a motivator by mouth(by actions, definitely). We need a Ray Lewis. I would prefer a DE or ILB...someone who hits a lot of people. We lost some fire when Joey Porter left.
