Why Mike Tomlin ws hired???

Postby T Bradshaw » Sat Dec 12, 2009 8:06 pm

Tomlin got the job to fill NFL quotas, only reason he is is because of some sort of NFL policy, in college they are rare because there is no policy(Rooney rule) and colleges want to give the job to best qualified and not a lesser coach because of some sort of minority quota.. They have their roles of course on coaching rosters and many great as defensive coaches, offensive, etc. Mike is a good guy and good to have on staff but not head coach material.

Rooney rule, the Rooneys I guess felt or were pushed into hiring this clown

Barry Switzer won a super bowl too but we know who really put that team together.

Too bad you only have 5 posts on this board because I would love to know what you were saying about Tomlin when he won the Super Bowl 10 months ago.

What NFL quota and NFL policy? Can you provide a link to what they are on the NFL's website?

You "guess" the Rooney's were pushed to hire Tomlin? You obviously don't know.

FYI, the Rooney Rule is made for teams to INTERVIEW at least one minority, and says nothing about hiring them.

To say that minorities should only be offensive or defensive coaches shows your BLATANT RACISM and IGNORANCE.

I don't think so at all, nor am I down with the "quota" thing. Tomlin was a good hiring and he will be one heck of a great coach once he gets a few years experience on him. You had to realize he was going to be on a learning curve given his age and zero experience as a Head Coach.

C'mon man, give the guy a break. Judge him a few years down the road from now if you're going to judge him.

I agree that it's too soon to pull the plug on Tomlin. Yes, we are having a crappy year but we did win the Super Bowl last year. This is his first 'bad' year, let's see how he responds next year.

PS -- Good / Bad coaches come in all colors... Look a Dick Juron...

You don't fire a coach the year after he wins the superbowl. Period. Do we really need to go back and remember what the doubters said about Cowher for all of those years? "Sure, he's great in the regular season. But what about the big win?"

Tomlin has made some mistakes this year. But put things in perspective. He's a 37 year old coach who's already won a superbowl. The NFL is about rings, period.

I have to disagree here........ Last season, I saw a brilliant coach........ This season, I see front-office distractions that are making this same coach look bad..........

Or to put it another way, as of right now, in spite of what has taken place in recent time (and in spite of my knee-jerk call for his firing several days ago), I still have confidence in Tomlin. I don't care if his skin color is purple.
Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

So we hired a guy to give him on the job training? If he wasn't ready to be a HC, he shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

I think he got lucky in that he inherited a SB caliber team. Most new coaches take over inept teams.

Anyone talking S**T on Tomlin is crazy............... I am starting to see how many people are really fair weather fans when it comes to the Steelers. They are having a bad year, injuries are killing us and we always knew our OL was one of the worst in the NFL. We need some changges but in no way should Tomlin be fired. Comon Son GTFOHWTBS.

Anyone who is not a fair weather fan is just plain stupid. Either that or has been lobotomized and needs pitying.

Coke Oven I think you are misunderstanding what a fair weather fan is. We are all fans of fair weather, but the term refers to people who are only fans when the weather is fair.

You know, I don't like to point the racist tag on someone simply because they have negative comments about a public figure I respect who also happens to be a person of color, but T Bradshaw comes off as a blatant racist who obviously didn't even bother to take the time to understand what the Rooney Rule is before posting.

Tomlin, perhaps, fell victim to believing in his own skills as a motivator and tactical mind too readily before this season. I think he maybe believed he had it down to keep this team playing at a high standard and, since he won the big one with Arians and LeBeau as his coordinators, that he may as well not fix what is not broken. Obviously, if these factors did come into play, he's a young head coach who has been to the top of the mountain but may just be realizing what it takes to build a dynasty. This season is a serious wakeup call for the field general of our beloved Black and Gold. He did in 3 what Cowher couldn't do in 13 years so the "inherited a powerhouse" notion and Barry Switzer analogies don't apply here.

He gets four more years outta me before I call for his head.

You guys holding the support the team no matter what philosophy would espouse to keep buying Buicks because they were once good, no matter how crappy they are now, just so you can be loyal to the brand.

Anyone who continues to support a team, and keeps shelling dough to the owners, no matter how crappy a product that owner puts on the field, is just plain stupid.

That's the problem with the Pirates. People keep supporting them year after year of getting spermed in the mouth. People need to boycott the Pirates altogether. If people didn't complain things wouldn't get done. I use the Pirates as an example here. I was born and raised a Steeler fan. I grew up with them through the 80's and that was hard to become a fan of an awful team. People fight when the Steelers suck, everyone just expects the Pirates to be awful. I don't want the pride of Pittsburgh getting to that point, so I will criticize them with every bad move made.

so what your saying is to give up on a team that is 1 WHOLE YEAR removed from a SB victory? Every game that they have lost this season is by 7 points or less........ your acting like this team is out of Detroit or something?

Of course that is the job of a libertard isnt it? To think that in general people can not think for themselves and need to be told what to do. Guess what jeemie? People are going to kick your master the fuck outta office in 2012. Then Danny boy is going to have to pack his shit and vacate the palace in Ireland. When he gets back he just may find his once proud Steelers a shambles

Are you a fair weather America fan? Because our economy sucks and blah blah blah Obama. Maybe you can go join team China or Russia or something until this stuff blows over.
