There is no doubt now that Mike Tomlin has created a problem for himself. He created bulletin board material for opposing teams (a cardinal sin) and he has made clear announcements that he has not followed through on. Now noone will believe anything he says. This means he has lost (I hope temporarily) his credibility. And theis loss of credibility just may have transcended to the locker room. My observation is that the team likes him. Hell I like him. But this may be an object lesson in Coaching 101

There is ample reason to believe that may be a weakness in his approach. We all know that training camp was weak. that he brought pool tables and other recreational crap into the training facility and that he gave the team a week off in the middle of the season

If I was Mike Tomlin I would be worried. And if you have not noticed. He LOOKS worried

Next year will be the test that most coaches go through. Turning around a team in disarray and regaining control. He deserves that chance

Totally Agree with PG. I like Tomlin, but if he can't make the tough decisions starting with LeBeau and Arians then he has to go with them.

i'm prolly going to catch flak for this but hes no cowher. in all my years of watchin the steelers, i never saw cowher drop 5 games in a row. i like tomlin but hes no cowher at motivating the team. i have a huge mental image of 2 totally different locker rooms with cowher yelling and spitting and drooling over his chin with rage and tomlin saying, "it is what is" over and over and then giving arians a reach around

It's his first truly bad year... Last see how they respond next year.. and lets see if he makes that changes need to turn us around.

If he wins a SB 1 out of every 3 years... i can live w/ a season like this 1 out of every 3 years. Hell at least we are not talking about some freaking 1985 team like I hear all the time in Chicago.

You'll get your big numbers for Ward, Mendy, Miller, Holmes, Ben and then it's down you go. In comes Sweed, MacDonald, Wallace, practice backs, Parker for tradebait, and we want to see Dixon, ...LIVE, and not as a granite statue.

Bruce: We've all seen better heads on nickel beers. Nothing personal understand, you just don't cut it as an NFL "OC" other than being "Offensive". You're allowed to read the rule book (no crayons though). You might note that a weakness on another team is allowed to be exploited. No rule AGAINST it. 3rd downs are BAD, but 1st downs are GOOD (am I typing too fast for you?). Here is a good thing though: IF you know your OWN TEAM and you know your opponent (that is the team in the "other" pretty colors), you can devise ways to turn those 3rd downs into 1st downs. Usually does NOT involve sending all of your players into a phonebooth at one time. Sometimes, a quick pass or using what is working is a good thing. Oh, I forgot, sacks don't help the cause. Maybe a QB coach can help here, but plays have a lot to do with these too. I'm not going to give an ultimatum here because I want you gone, 2 years go. Ben can score with no-huddle as he's proven. Why we haven't seen this used in the last 4 or 5 games ranks right up there with "why is there air?". Lately, You just seem to be a speed bump in the fast lane of NFL football. The obvious escapes you. Get out.

How quickly we forget. Actually, Bill Cowher had three teams lose 5 straight (one that lost 6 straight):
In 1998 the Steelers, under Cowher, lost 5 in-a-row to finish the season - going from a playoff-bound 7-4 record to 7-9 and done. The very next season the Steelers came out of the box 5-3 but then dropped SIX straight games to fall to 5-9 before finishing up at miserable 6-10. Everyone on this board would have been SCREAMING for Cowher's head. I'm sure many of you are still hoarse. And as recently as 2003 old Billy did it again starting out 2-1 only to drop five straight to fall to 2-6. The Steelers finished that year at 6-10 also.

Chuck Noll dropped five straight twice (if you count his first year when he famously told his new team that the reason they lost a lot of games was simple - the players just weren't talented enough to win.) Anyway, they did win their first game that year, only to drop the next thirteen straight. Yea, those were the days. Noll also lost 5 straight in 1988 going from 1-0 to 1-6 and finishing up 5-11.

On the bright side, here is a list of the 5 players drafted with the Steelers first pick the year after they dropped at least 5 consecutive games:

1970 - Terry Bradshaw (#1 overall)
1989 - Tim Worley (#7 - we also picked up a solid OT in Tom Ricketts in the first round that year)
1999 - Troy Edwards (#13)
2000 - Plaxico Burress (#8)
2004 - Ben Roethlisberger (#11)

By the way, Tomlin does need to lose the skull cup. Very pussy.
