The $64,000 Question.....................

Postby StillDodger » Tue Dec 01, 2009 12:38 am

Was Mike Tomlin's success last season more a product of the previous (Cowher) regime??

At the time we won the SB, I thought we had another brilliant coach........... But with what has transpired this season, I now have some real doubts............... The **mental** mistakes this team has made has been both inexcusable, and more-distressingly, chronic. Not to mention keeping matchup problems in place instead of trying to fix them. (Farrior in passing situations, for example.)

I don't know if it's stubbornness toward staying course with Arians and LeBeau, but it goes further. Former coach Marty Schittenheimer (you can laugh now) once said the key indicator of a quality coaching staff is the play of the special teams. If this statement rings true, we're in deep trouble.

I hope this season is an aberration, not a sign of things to come.

I have been screaming that was Cowher team out there for the Super Bowl, (XLIII), but everyone was loving Tomlin and I was just the hater. Tomlin is a great speaker and that blinds alot of Fans. To answer your question, Tomlin's success was driven by Cowher and that's another reason why NFL teams want him to come out of retirement and coach.

Tomlin has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to building a coaching legacy like coach Choker I mean Cowher. All puns aside and as much as I liked FG Billy, one SB victory out of the talented teams he had (especially early on with the players the Steelers had on D) was underachievement at its colossal best. I don't consider him a great coach but a good one. But he still built a very strong legacy as a coach who can bring stability to an organization and build both player and general fan support. If you didn't catch the Ravens post game you missed a great quote and rant by which I will measure Tomlin for the immediate future. He said that the Steelers would, "unleash hell in December." Wow. We will see if he means to take the things into his own hands a little more like many posters on the boards have been pining for or if he is just blowing smoke and whistling Dixie. If the Steelers go 4-0 in December I suppose that's a bit of a legacy builder.

Damn there's just no pleasing some of you.

Which of these hall of fame qb's did Cowher fail to win the big one with?

Bubby Brister?
Neil O'Donnell?
Kordell Stewart?
Tommy Maddox?

He got them there with O'Donnell and Neil choked it away.

As far as last year's team still being Cowher's, it is. It is the same team he went 8-8 with his last year.

Some of you have no fucking respect or appreciation.
