After a loss

Postby StillLifer » Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:11 pm

So what does everyone on here do to cope with a Steelers loss? (especially a stinging one like a divisional game)

Because of my temper, I prefer not to watch any Steelers game with fans of the opposing team. On games where I think they'll be close or I'm not sure they'll win (like this one), I prefer to watch completely alone. I'm liable to chew out whoever is sitting next to me.

After the yelling and pillow-smacking during the game, it takes me a good 30 mins to be approachable to another human being. Come to think of it, even my cats stay away. My husband knows to be very low-key around me. The last loss the Steelers had during the '05-'06 season, I was so p'o' ed that I went on the internet in search of comfort and stumbled across Stillers.com. So now I come on here after a loss and take a bit of comfort in the collective grieving of the Steeler Nation. :(

I also had some good Arby's today. Curly fries help.

Any other suggestions?

I am a miserable f&$k after a Steeler loss...especially AT HOME, AGAINST THE BUNGLES, AND BECAUSE WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER THEN THEM...I HATE losing....OMG...We should be 8-1 right now...losing to the Bears and the Bungles earlier...

I have ZERO suggestions on how to deal with it...my wife and kids know to stay away from daddy when the Stillers crap the bed like they did today....

I will resume to normal function around Wednesday...

Good luck... :sushootem:

I generally break things.

A heavy amount of profanity occurs throughout the game and generally for a long time after as well.

I buy remotes in bulk and I cannot tell you how many cups and glasses I've broke.

During the AFC Title game against SD in 1995, I did about $1,000 damage to our solid oak entertainment center.

I destroyed several items during last years SB including a bat.

I am a utter prick around other breathing things.

The wife and kids leave ROUTINELY. Nobody can stand being around me.

Now that I think about it, I'm generally pissed off at the team even if they win.

If I had a dog, I'm sure I'd kick the shit out of him.

I take these losses very hard; however, I'm getting better. I think it has to do with the aging process.

I subscibe to NFL Sunday Ticket and try to find another losing team I hate. Just knowing there's a Ravens, Bronco,Dolphin,Cowboy etc fan out there being pissed makes me feel a little better. :D

I feel exactly the same way as yenz do. Try living in columbus, ohio when you grew up south of pittsburgh. Bengal fans are comming out of the wood work like you wouldn't believe.

Sinse nobody else has said it yet....you're one hot steeler fan! Don't get me wrong,I think my wife is hot too she just doesn't shair the same passion like we do...live and die on every play.

I live in Wilmington Ohio so know what you mean about Bungle fans. Luckily I have Monday & Tuesday off so I don't have to deal with them for a few days

:suplusone:

Teams I enjoy watching lose: All others in our division, Cowboys, Patriots, and the media's flavor of the season.

1fourdathumb: thanks... and I'm really glad I don't live in Ohio.

Hey, it's only football...BUT IT'S DAMN STEELER FOOTBALL!!!!! I find nothing that can calm me down after a loss and generally am in a bad mood for at least two days. Last year I didn't watch the games - it just made me too nervous and tense. This year I have been watching....think I'll go back to looking at the scores after the game and if we win watch highlights and if we lose - just stew for a few days

My wife can come home after a game and can tell by the look on my face the outcome of the game. After a loss I listed to Pittsburgh radio online to commiserate with other fans.I want to vent!I tend to watch more football after a win than a loss.

Ohio Steeler...I kinda grew up in Wilmington, went there for Jr High and High School. Moved there from PA. Way back when Wilmington was where Bungles had their training camp. I used to wear my Steelers stocking cap when riding my bike past the training camp...looked kinda silly when it was 90 degrees out and I had a stocking cap on, but it was the only stiller apparel I could afford. Only kids in the whole school system who were stillers fans were me and my brothers, but it was a dam good time to be a stillers fan, the 70's. Hope the DHL pullout hasn't hurt you or your family too bad.

very good thread, Lifer.

Myself, I often like to do chores or physical activity after a grisly loss.....helps burn off some excess anger.

Additionally, my post-game analyses actuallly serve as salve after a loss. And, as Hammer noted, lots of beer.

Thanks
I moved here from PA to take a job with Airborne 19 years ago. DHL buy out and ensuing fiasco ended that but at least I found work in Columbus. The bungals were still holding camp here when I moved here. I used to show up with my Steeler gear too. Maybe that's why they left, too many Steeler fans :D

I figured that writing those analyses must be some sort of therapy for you. Coincidentally, reading them is sort of therapy for me. Thanks for breaking it down each week.

After a loss I immediately turn on the radio and listen to Ellis Tunch and Wolfs post game. There is no punches pulled and they root out the flaws for all the world to see. Then Steeler nation starts calling in with the same grief we all feel. Very cathartic.

Then a day later Sill Mills post game analysis verifies almost everything I witnessed and the dot is then under the exclamation . It is at that point that I give up the glowering and return to humanity
