Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
Rush Limbaugh said he thought McNabb was overrated by a media who was rooting for a minority quarterback to succeed.
Rush is too controversial to own a team for expressing his opinion- right or wrong.
Ray Lewis was invloved in a MURDER and won Super Bowl MVP the next year, when he should have been serving time.
Ricky Williams smokes more pot than your average Haitian cab driver. He is playing and proving that the league's substance abuse tests are an absolute joke.
Michael Vick stuck electric prods up dogs asses if they lost a fight. He payrolled an illegal dogfighting operation in his backyard and he got 3 games to think about it.
These are but a few examples off the top of my head.
The NFL is littered with less than stellar individuals who bring fans and sell jerseys. Rush brings attention to an ownership contingent that wants to stay under the shady radar. Fuck them!
For those of you who are opposed philosophically to El Rushbo, he said the first thing he would do upon takeover of the Stillers is FIRE ARIANS! Plus he said he would sign Redman for the goal line offense.
lol.
Just randomness to take a break from my sense of loss over Smithenstein's injury.

And don't forget the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders who "allegedly" broke the jaw of one of his coaches and is facing possible jail time........ But you know, saying that McNabb was overrated and that the media was rooting for him because he's a black quarterback is way worse.

There hasn't been too many black QBs to succeed in the NFL (Michael Vick, Vince Young, Seneca Wallace, Tavaris Jackson, Byron Leftwich, David Garrard, JASON CAMPBELL, etc.), but I think McNabb is one of the few (along with Warren Moon)
Re: Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
Those are all player and coach actions, not things said or done by owners.
The sale of a franchise is not an auction to the highest bidder. It's about who you let into your very rich boys' club. They don't want Rush in the club, and they don't have to explain to anybody. Goodell is just he mouthpiece here.
When the Boston Red Sox were for sale, the last major sports franchise that sold, it didn't go to the highest bidder. It went for $100M less to the owner's group that promised to support Selig's position, and the majority of the owners' position, on profit sharing.
The don't give a rat's ass about what Rush said about McNabb. They don't want Rush blabbing about what goes on at their owners' meetings. Which he would do.

Ridiculous. The NFL is just another business and Rush should be allowed to buy in if he can. How is Jim Irsay, who moved his team from Baltimore in the dead of night for the riches of Indianapolis going to speak out against rush owning a piece of the Rams. What a hypocrite. And the players coming out against Rush....Puh-leease. The NFL has two types of players...star and parts. The parts are discarded, which is why the average NFL career is just over 2 years. It's the ultimate "planatation" mentality. Silly...I love the game, but the business part of the NFL is just that...business.

By throwing their lot with the race hustlers and liberal media the NFLPA and Goodell tacidly called Rush a racist. If they believe that Rush is a racist then they believe that I am a racist. I refuse to continue to support a group that feels that way about me and my ideas. The fact is being a fan of Steelers brings too much happiness to my life for me to quit, but other than the Steelers I am done with the NFL. I won't buy anymore gear, watch anymore pre/post-game analysis, or watch any games the Steelers are not participating in. God knows my wife will be happy.
I know this is more of a punishment to me than to them, but I feel like I have to do something, otherwise I'm just taking their insult without response.

I thought Rush was trying to buy the Rams. Was he trying to buy into the Steelers too?
I have to say I'm surprised by the comments left here by fans of Rush. After all, the NFL is a private business run by private businessmen. Aren't you guys opposed to quotas of any kind? Don't you guys believe that the owner of a business should be able to hire, not hire or fire anyone they want for any reason at all? Shouldn't then the NFL owners be allowed to not include anyone for any reason? I mean, it's the free market at work, isn't it? Aren't the NFL owners allowed to say that including Rush in their club would hurt their profits and therefore stay away from him? You're not suggesting that private businessmen should be compelled to act against their own interests, are you?
You are, of course, allowed to speak your mind on the subject all you like, and you are of course free to boycott the NFL. I'm just rather surprised at the attitude of Rush fans on this matter.

Limbaugh would have been part of a conglomerate of people purchasing the Rams. He wasn't going to be majority owner and I highly doubt that he would have been attending owner's meetings.

No. Rush is not trying to buy the Steelers.
Yes I believe that people should be hired/fired on their contributions to the organization.
I wanted to point out that Rush was being singled out for his opinions and no other reason. While you may agree or disagree about his McNabb opinion, it was a fair opinion to have. NOT A RACIAL SLUR. He suggested that the media tended to support a minority QB so they had him overrated, based on performance. The fans in Philly have said much worse.
Agree or disagree, the statement is hardly comparable to Jessie Jackson referring to New York as "Heimey Town" or threatening to chop of Obama's nuts. Or the inflamatory rehtoric that Al Sharpton spouts on a regular basis. If either of the RaceBait Brothers wanted to own a team, there would not be this outcry. It is politcally correct bullshit. Our side can say what they want, but your side of the argument needs to shut up and go away.
The outcry against Rush is gutteral and instinctive- not business.

When you have a business like the NFl the last thing you want is a controversial person that a third or half or whatever of the country absolutely despises owning a team. Sharpton piled on because he knew he could win.. they did not cave to him or Jackson. Give me a break.

Absolutely correct. Rush is a flamethrower which is his schtick. What he said is documented; what he has yet to say is not. No business needs undue or potentially damaging contoversy especially on socially or politically hot topics. Didn't seem to bother Checketts one bit; "Bye bye, Rush; another millionaire will soon be along."

Re: Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
The NFL, as a private business group, certainly has the right to refuse Rush part ownership as it follows their standard operating procedure. It is the acceptance of the premise and public statements intimating that he is a racist that I object to because in doing so they tangetially are calling me a racist for agreeing with him on most things.
Goodell could have dodged those questions and said the process will be followed for Rush like any other potential owner, but he chose to call him out. The NFLPA also made their point loud and clear.
Just remember as you type on your keyboard or speak your mind, someone out there may be offended by what you say and brand you based on their standards of politically correct speech, and in doing so prevent you from attaining something someday.
By the way, Mark Cuban is a "Truther" and financed a movie (Redacted) about our troops raping and killing little girls in Iraq. Is that incindiary enough for the NBA or ESPN? All the ESPN guys love him and I've never heard about his ownership being in jeopardy because of his statements, nor was it brought up when he attempted to purchase the Cubs.

Re: Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
IF the NFL owners decide to allow Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton to own an NFL team (by no means a certainty), I trust it would be because they decided that having Jackson or Sharpton own a team would be profitable for them. I trust that they rejected Limbaugh because they decided that allowing him to own a team would not be profitable for them. I trust that the NBA and ESPN find it profitable to embrace Mark Cuban. It's the free market at work.
See again, I am somewhat confused. I would have thought that Rush and his fans would agree that private business owners are allowed to make whatever decisions they want. You're not saying that the free market does not always produce the best outcome, are you?
"Just remember as you type on your keyboard or speak your mind, someone out there may be offended by what you say and brand you based on their standards of politically correct speech, and in doing so prevent you from attaining something someday."
But I thought Rush fans already believed this to be the case. In a free markety society, can't businessmen deny you an opportunity for any reason they choose including something you've said? Are we trying to engage in some kind of socialism or social engineering here, or are we going to let the market run its course?
As for the things Mark Cuban has said, I am content to let the evidence guide me as to whether to believe them or not.

Re: Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
I think the NFL would have shied away from Sharpton or Jackson as part-owners as well...and while Limbaugh's comment about McNabb certainly did him no favors (probably offending the players more than the owners), I think the main reason they didn't want him around was because of how much attention he attracts and how many people strongly dislike him. That love-me-or-hate-me is great for radio; as the owner of a pro sports franchise, not so much. And yeah, his was a (potential) minority stake, but the Rams would be--right or not--known as Rush Limbaugh's team.
As for Cuban, MLB never really gave his bid for the Cubs the time of day just because of how much shit he stirs up. Remember when he bought the Mavs very few people knew who he was. You don't think David Stern would like Cuban to disappear and be done with an owner bashing his refs? All four of the pro sports leagues want owners who don't attract attention, and if they do they want it to be drawing people to the sport (like Jerry Jones).
I've just promoted Jerry Jones.

Ever hear of affirmative action? I know it doesn't always hire / promote the best candidates for a job.
But, yeah, socialism rocks

The NFL made a reasonable business decision based on the information at hand. I am upset because the Commissioner and NFLPA echoed the sentiments of a bunch of race baiters and by doing so insulted me and a lot of other people. I am now free not to buy their product and express my displeasure. This is the free market at work.
There is no end game to a free society. Social norms and morays are constantly changing as determined by the people. Some may prefer a centrallized government entity telling us what to do and think based on their moral consciousness of right and wrong, but that is not the American way.
I understand this is a site about the Steelers so I won't perpetuate this post anymore, but it was entertaining to discuss. Poltargyst, you come across as a smug little man or woman and your sarcasm doesn't bring weight to your position.

Re: Rush Limbaugh bids for Stillers. Godell is a Damned Hypocrit
hello all, a long time post-er from pittsburgh live, just registered. I want to first say as a reader of stillers.com for 4 years. It is what it claims - truth and hard critical analysis of the organization we love.
with that said I was laid up with an injury when the mcnabb thing happened. I posted say 1/2 dozen times on that board back then. For those who don't remember it wasn't about mcnabb / color. It was about the main credit for the eagles succeess was not mcnabb but the D. The reason why the media fawned over mcnabb RUSH THEORIZED And IN HIS OPINION, (which I thought we were all allowed to have ) was their desire to see a black QB (which throughout the past 80 years of football was a WHITE poition - as stupid as that is).
First, Rush was not the origionator of that suggestion / thought. It was IN PRINT prior to his statement and I along with others posted those articles on pittsburgh trib site, then a day or two later, Rush (on his show and web site read and linked to them). When the statements first were said no one objected or stormed off the espn set (something so sensitive seems to me should be rascist immediately). someone help me out, wasn't even Michael Irvin (on the set) even nodded?? Third point, it wasn't until the 3rd day after (an eagles practice), the Rush comments, that the media even asked or acted offended.
See those like Jesse, AL Sharptongue, Wilbon, Sanchez, Goodell, MSNBC, Barf Scott, and other liberal thought police don't want anyone to know the facts.....that might just get in the way on how someone should be thought about.
PS Jimmy Johnson and his defense were the MAIN reason for the Eagles success up to and including the Superbowl year- YEAH, I said it too...You gonna brand me a racsist? Just like the D was the main reason for the Steelers success in the first years of Ben's career.

I pretty much agree with you on this one LG. I listen to El Rushmo on the EIB network religously. He is a true football afficianado like us. I also know that he is a Steeler fan. He likes the way the Steelers organization is run. When he was asked to sit on the ESPN panel anyone who did not see something like that coming was utterly foolish. The Maha Rushie says what a lot of folks think but are afraid to say. In any event, just look at the slezeball owners they trot out for the Dolphins
RUSH ROCKS! Just think how interesting that would make things at StLouis. The stands would be packed with dittoheads! LOL!!
