Re: ESPN names each teams All-Time Franchise Player
I know no media outlet will put him on the list, but greg lloyd should always be on the top 5 list of all time stillers since he was the black n gold for a decade!
There may have been better athletes on the team like woodson ect... but there was no steeler more valuable to the team over the past 20 yrs then greg lloyd!
alot of the media also forgets he was the most dominant linebacker in the leage for a several yr stretch, the only thing that kep him out of the hall of fame was the injury!

IMHO, Bettis does not compare to Webster. Bettis had an amazing career for a bruising back but I don't see the two in the same light...
The poll is not not surprising though since players that score TD's always rank higher in polls than those that don't.

At least Bettis is below Franco, so there is a God.

Gildong didn't make the list??
Re: ESPN names each teams All-Time Franchise Player
An unscientific poll as they all are online but also an indication of how media presence sways public opinion.
I don't think you could find a player or coach from the 70s who would choose anyone but Joe Greene despite the loads of talent around him.
His influence and leadership on and off the field were without precedent and he could play a little football too.
Bradshaw deserves plenty of praise but even he would admit he ostracized himself during his playing days.

How about dirty Ratbirds fans picking kicker Matt Stover instead of Ray Lewis in their poll. Totally ridiculous.

Kinda amusing that the fan's pick for best player is a kicker. Oh yeah, wasn't there also a guy by the name of Jonathan Odgen?
Skins picking Darrell Green over Thiesmann or Riggins probably has to do with recent HOF induction. Not that Green isn't deserving, it's just not the first name that comes to mind when one thinks Redskins.
Saints going with Hebert over Manning or Sam Mills? Hmm....

Joe Greene set the tone.
I disagree. Mean Joe was the foundation the franchise rebuilt it's self on. Hell, Bradshaw wasn't even the starter for the first 4 or 5 games in 1974 the year we won our first Super Bowl. Joe Greene was a wrecking machine out of the gate. Teams feared Mean Joe Greene and he was the leader in the locker room that determined how things were going to be especially early on. Later in the 70's Bradshaw had matured and in fact was a "late bloomer". We won the first two Championships with Franco and the Steel Curtain anchored by Joe Greene. The last two Championships were won with veteran smarts on defense and the passing game. Swann and Stallworth elevated their game on the biggest stage in SB's 13 & 14 they were beautiful. My List and it wasn't easy.
1. Joe Greene ..attitude
2. Swann - SB 10 MVP
3. Bradshaw - 2 time SB MVP
4. Franco -SB 9 MVP
5. Lambert- Hailed from Buzzards Breath Wyoming
6. Blount - He made them change the rules
7. Stallworth - SB 13 & 14 Hero
8. Ham - Sound technician never out of position
9. Webster - He was always there R.I.P.
10. L.C. Greenwood -Those Gold Shoes were clean
11. Rocky -inspirational and gritty competitor
Post Steel Curtain team
1. Woodson -All Century
2. Bettis -Jumbro #36
3. Lloyd -Nasty
4. Big Ben -Most accurate Stiller passer ever
5. Hines Ward -All-Time Steeler WR
6. Dirt Dawson -A fixture
7. Louis Lipps -#83 was dangerous
8. Carnell Lake -Better than Donnie Shell
9. Willie Parker -Long TD Sprint sealed one for the thumb
10. Casey Hampton -Much better than Steed or G-Man. The best 3-4 nose in team history.

Man, I'm not sure if he's the best K in the DIVISION..... Between Reed, Dawson, and Stover, it's a toss-up.
But then again, the water in Baltimore is a little suspect...... How they can pick a silly kicker over Ray Lewis....
Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

I suppose we shouldn't expect anything less from Ratbirds fans. They are the worst in the NFL.

I've lived in Texas all my life and am currently living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
I will respectfully disagree with you and say Cowboys fans are the worst in the NFL. Whether it be their sheer ignorance of their own team or the Kool-aid powered bandwagon... It's sickening to see so many people 'hoot-n-holler' for a team they really couldn't tell you anything about. Unless of course they're losing (see seasons 2000-2002), then there's nothing to worry about as Cowboys fans don't exist.
Here's to hoping for another 5-11 season for Dallas!!!

Actually, I meant that Ratbird fans are the worst in terms of meanness, not ignorance, although they rank right up there in ignorance, as well.
Re: ESPN names each teams All-Time Franchise Player
Bradshaw is the right call. QB is always the most important position, maybe the '70s Steelers don't win 4 Super Bowls if they don't win the coin toss for Bradshaw in '70, just like they would have never won Super Bowl XL if they had drafted somoene other than Ben in '04.
